Baylor was able to get us in to an up and down for a couple stretches that really hurt us as we sped up and turned it over. But they did that to us. We didn’t do it to ourselves. That’s what makes them the best team in the country.
Agree.

I mean we can make a big deal out a couple passes, but prompt passing and ball movement by most of the team has been a strength and is needed. We won’t be very good on offense with guys catching and taking the air out with dribbling.

Credit Baylor, although it’s the receiving side has been an issue. Scotty pointed out against Chicago St that we often don’t come to the ball.

It caused some really unneeded turnovers.

For example yesterday - Tyrese picks up hsi dribble in the back court and passes to to Grill who immediately passes the ball to Baylor for a dunk. Grill had no need to pass because he's capable of dribbling the 5 ft passed the half court line. But in all honestly Tyrese should just kept dribbling and not passed the ball.

They're very well conditioned to keep it moving and it shows with these telegraphed passes around the perimeter that opponents keep jumping.

Need to just take a breath now and then, maybe reverse it or something.

I'm not talking about around the perimeter. I'm talking about against token pressure. If I find a replay of the game yesterday I'll post the video.

The three specific plays that I was talking about earlier were the following:

1. 23:05 of the video - Inbounded to Tyrese he passes to TE. Instead of dribbling it TE passes it right away and it is almost stolen. I'd like to just see TE dribble it up if he isn't under pressure.

2. 32:25 of the video - Tyrese passes to Grill. Grill passes it right back to Tyrese instead of dribbling it himself across half court.

3. 47:16 of the video - Grill tries to make a cross court pass immediately after receiving a pass. It is intercepted by Baylor. I'd like to see Grill get that ball recognize Baylor is in a zone and more a little more patient.

Yeah I know these are little things but they really annoyed the hell out of me at the game.

The bad past on our run out fast break (maybe more than one time) after forcing a turnover got me. But to Baylors credit they played great transition defense as well.

True. Definitely a hard ball fake and send it back where it came from time to time if opponents are trying to jump it, but as another poster just above said, I am not going to complain about the great ball movement so far. I love how they whip it around and make the defense move compared to what we saw the last couple years. Just hope we can beat teams like Baylor that have such good half court defense down the court a little more in the future and try and get more transition buckets. Love Brockington, Hunter, et al in transition. Still, can't complain at all about this team scoring 72 against Baylor's D. We shoot a little better from deep, we may have won. Got to be proud of the effort and how ISU played.

What will slow down the defense on jumping those passes is a few back door cuts. They are as effective at slowing down defensive perimeter pressure in basketball as screen passes are at slowing down a pass rush in football.

Having a 3 man big guy rotation is normal. Conditt, Kuncz, and Enaruna should be taking this minutes and going small when they can’t put 2 of them in there. Jones is a good backup backup plan if foul trouble comes.

Don't disagree in theory, but that doesn't work against a dominant big oriented team like Purdue. So, the 4/5 rotations are often about matchups and scouting reports--things TJ seems to do well so far.

Cyclones clearly have things to work on in practice, AND, I have the feeling the coaches are going to be doing alot of teachingl

We should worry about that when we play Purdue.:jimlad:

I know you're joking, and it hurts me to say this given Thamba looked like he thought he was the best player ever to play college basketball during the game, but you saw the issue when Thamba was in for Baylor.

Thamba didn't do **** Saturday. In fact neither of the Baylor bigs did ****.

i dont like it when we throw it to our bigs at the top of the key especially against pressure defense like baylors. i know thats part of our offense but i do not trust jones/conditt making decisions with the ball 20ft from the hoop.

Their guards killed us. Not their bigs. Kalschuer had his worst game defensively by far in that game. I would argue that if 2 of the starting guards don’t turn it over 9 times between them, we win the game. Our guard play was lacking, not the Enaruna/Conditt/Kuncz group.

Disagree with this about Conditt. I think he is doing a great job with the ball in that position this year. Some good assists and no lazy pass TOs that some of the guards have had. Did you see his dime to Hunter in the Baylor game?

We did neutralize them pretty well by getting them in foul trouble. Thamba did have a stretch where he scored several quick points though.
