Tristan Enaruna PT

He's no more a free throw liability than the starting point guard. I mean come on Tyrese you have the ball in your hands you need to make free throws.
The stats tell a different story. Hunter is shooting .692 from the charity stripe. Jones is shooting .444.

But yes, I agree, all of the ISU players need to have the women's team's coaching staff working on them on free throws. I know that 77% was more than respectable in this game, but when you miss 6 free throws, including at least one front end of a 1 and 1 and end up losing the game by 5 it illustrates how important those free throws are.

69% for the starting point guard is ****** - that was my point. Can't have the ball in a guys hands late in the game who is shooting 69%.

Point taken, but you can't have any player in the game late who is shooting under 50%, especially significantly less than 50%.

Again, yes, they all need to work on the free throws, especially with tired legs.

Rob Jones had his best game and I don't think he's peaked yet!

And I love how well this thread has aged, TE has pretty much read all the complaints about him here, and fixed them.

TE.

2 games ago people wanted to see him tougher.... And against Baylor he played very tough. He's improving in the way we all wanted to see.

I'd like to see him step up and hit a 3 here and there to string out the defense a bit.

Link?

Considering he had a better game against Alabama State this year and much better games when he was at Denver in previous years, I wouldn't necessarily say that this game against Baylor is the best game he is capable of.
If Rob can hit layups and get to like 60% FT that will be serviceable. I think his mins would’ve been 0-5 yesterday had Jaz not struggled so much. Minutes are going to round into shape, but it’s still kind of early without enough consistent good opponents to see for sure.

I was disappointed that Jaz only took one three for the game. When we are clearly struggling from 3 it is disappointing that our most clutch three point shooter isn't getting even a couple of looks.

I am sure someone has already said this, but it seems like he has embraced his role of more of a SF/PF than a guard. He does well with this as he can score with either hand and has some decent post moves. Like another poster just said, I wish he would take some outside shots to stretch the floor. He has gotten tougher and more aggressive. Athletic ability is there! Hopefully he can keep this momentum and this game will add some confidence.

My wife is a KU grad, so I've been watching a lot of both teams this year and I've enjoyed seeing how the "trade" of Enaruna for Coleman-Lands has worked out on both sides. They each had their best games of the year yesterday, but it was obvious both teams missed what the other guy might give them. JCL saved KU from an embarrassing loss with his outside shooting when their big guys were mostly awful, and TE kept ISU alive inside when they couldn't buy a three.

There were a lot of time yesterday where we were really tentative with shooting and dripping. Jazz had numerous times in the high post where he passed up a drive or a shot to just stand there trying to pass it.

A couple other things that have been driving me nuts are 1) how often we pick up the dribble and 2) how certain guys act like the ball has a disease and they can't pass it away fast enough.

This looks to be by design. We have to use the pass because the ball moves faster than we can. I’ve really enjoyed how the ball very rarely sticks. It’s also worked, I can’t remember a season with less late shot clock terrible drives or having to Chuck up a prayer.

It caused some really unneeded turnovers.

For example yesterday - Tyrese picks up hsi dribble in the back court and passes to to Grill who immediately passes the ball to Baylor for a dunk. Grill had no need to pass because he's capable of dribbling the 5 ft passed the half court line. But in all honestly Tyrese should just kept dribbling and not passed the ball.

The constant and early switching by Baylor gave the guys some trouble. There were a lot of passes where every other game you could make a pass anticipating a guy being open where Baylor switched. They weren't even so much switching on screens, they were switching before the screener was even set. We saw some good back door cuts by Hunter and others to counter, just not quite enough, and it's a nice luxury with so much athleticism and length on the help.

Ball movement rotates the defense in a way that either of them dribbling across half court (possibly into a trap) cannot. There were some lazy passes that got picked, but the quick GOOD ones are perfect. It bothered me far more yesterday when the ball seemed to “stick” with one player repeatedly. There were 0 good outcomes.

Baylor was able to get us in to an up and down for a couple stretches that really hurt us as we sped up and turned it over. But they did that to us. We didn’t do it to ourselves. That’s what makes them the best team in the country.
