Treatment for smashed finger/toe

As a carpenter's son I've smashed my finger/thumb plenty.

As a first step I would recommend putting your thumb in your mouth, jumping around and shout things like "son of a *****".

If you do get blood/pressure building up I often used the needle method. It really doesn't hurt that bad. If it's hurting it's likely because you are pushing it in too far. You just need to get the blood out from under your nail, not press it all the way to the bone.

I've used the drill bit method once or twice when I was at the job and didn't have a needle available.

Later in life I got some sage advice from my grandpa (also a carpenter). He said "yeah I used to hit my thumb with a hammer a lot too when I was young. Then I realized it hurt and so I quit doing it."

This happened to me freshman year when I was drunk and got my finger smashed in my buddy's door in Friley....Just let the the thing heal and make a gnarly black nail for 4 months before I was able to clip it off.
Maybe the drill bit/ hot nail treatment would work...

That's what she said.

Pfft. Drilling a hole in your finger. Whatever. Cut the whole damn finger off.

:jimlad:

Anyway, week of graduation, I was reaching to keep the big, heavy, metal door of Friley Dungeon open and wasn't quick enough and it closed on my finger. That wasn't pleasant. I didn't drill any holes or anything like that, and a month or two later I lost the nail. It actually took a few years to grow back completely normally.

Yelling obscenities usually does the trick for me. If I did it with a hammer, the hammer usually gets thrown too. Other than that I've got nothing.

:cool:Your Grandpa was a wise man. Thanks for giving me a good laugh on a Saurday afternoon!

The sooner you put the pin through the nail, the better you are going to be. You have to relieve the pressure to eliminate the pain.

X2. Heat a needle. Burn through the nail, doesn't hurt. Immediate relief.
