I was mostly joking. It was one heck of a catch. What? That play showed why he'd be a good receiver.
Was anyone else impressed with that Tre Bell interception yesterday? Good Lord! Man, he put on the extra jets to beat the man he was covering to the ball by a couple paces and made an incredible diving catch. That was a big play and snuffed out Arkansas State's chances.
I've watched him exclusively on a couple plays while at JTS, and he looks really good. The tackle he made in the Iowa game for a loss was filthy and that interception yesterday. We may have another one of these two-sport athletes who decides to get serious at football late in his career and becomes a next-level NFL type guy. He's certainly made some eye-popping plays so far and seems to be getting better at coverage every week. Exciting.
He wasn’t flipping to himself. He was holding the ball up to show that he held on.Yeah he showed why he is a DB and not a WR. Great hands on the interception. Not so great hands on the flip to himself.
I’m kind of impressed.Yes, you are all right that the play was dead and they ruled it a catch.
All I'm saying is if he hadn't had totally secured the ball (i.e. replay takes a look at the play and sees it slightly moving as he falls to the ground) and then the ball flys up like it did, whether intentional or not, now it's not a completed catch.
Especially in a game like yesterday where things weren't going great, I wouldn't want to take any chances. Secure the catch and don't let the ball come flying out of your hands.
Transfer from Lindenwood. This is his first year in the program.Where did Tre Bell come from? I don’t remember him last year. He’s been great so far this year.
Also, just heard on Blum and Williams Jontez might (probably?) got hurt on Saturday because he only played 14 snaps. That is very concerning.
Anytime you give them a chance to review it could go wrong for us.What could have gone wrong with it? He had it, and it was a dead ball because he was on the ground.
I could not remember if he transferred in out changed positions.Transfer from Lindenwood. This is his first year in the program.
Coachable moment.Except for the whole trying to flip the ball up in the air to himself at the end. That could have been bad if done wrong.
It reminded me of the players that drop the ball as they cross the goal line, and accidentally do it a step too soon.
I admire your enthusiasm but might want to reread the first two sentences, making a practice squad in the NFL is very difficult let alone a roster. The four QB’s faced so far this year are below average D-1 QB’s including the much hyped Avery Johnson who is a good runner but not accurate as a passer. I agree the DB’s have played well so far this year. I’ll throw out the Arkansas St game as a trap game scenario as the defense did not play as well as the first three games. If both he and Jontez Williams are back next year that is the best corner duo in the Big 12. Both will play on Sundays. That entire safety group is back as well with another year of experience under their belt. That secondary should be scary good next year.
I’m not concerned about that because it seems that he is reading the play correctly. He doesn’t do it all the time, just when it ought to be done.I noticed something on, I believe, three passes. He has incredible ability to play beyond the receiver. I only hope it's not a habit other teams can exploit with back shoulder passes. One thing for sure, he's a talent.
Jontez Williams was a First Team All Big 12 selection (as was Jeremiah Cooper). There is zero drop off when Tre Bell is on the field. To say we have the best trio of corners in the Big 12 isnt "enthusiasm" it is rooted in fact. These guys are really really good. Tre Bell may very well have the highest celing of the three.I admire your enthusiasm but might want to reread the first two sentences, making a practice squad in the NFL is very difficult let alone a roster. Fair point. The “they will play on Sunday” line was established by Brent Musberger who routinely used it multiple times to anoint good plays during broadcast of a college game. It seldom happens. Moving on, it always is impressive when a staff finds a Higgins or a Bell who for whatever reason was over looked coming out of high school. If Bell follows the same trajectory of Higgins kudos to him and the coaches for giving him the opportunity.Jontez Williams was a First Team All Big 12 selection (as was Jeremiah Cooper).
