Everyone running their mouths about 7-5 season should just keep their filthy mouths shut. CMC and his staff needs to be appreciated for saving a lot of ungrateful souls there in Ames from depression. Snowing outside, after a 2-10 season only to watch the useless Hawkeyes going to Tampa or California for a bowl game. Is that what you want? Because if CMC wasn’t there then I don’t know who would come and make ISU legit again. Let’s not forget where we are coming from. At least I live in Houston, I can go to strip clubs and get boobs in my face, go to really good restaurants and have some very good food, yes Houston has very good food in the whole of America. So
If CMC isn’t there then chances are you will be shoveling snow instead of going to a bowl game, so let’s not throw stones while living in a glass house. I do not want to keep reading nonsense about the 7-5 record. Learn to be grateful. Paul Rhoads was just dancing on the sidelines and giving you excuses and 3-9 every year, let’s not forget that. Hands off my Coach, he’s the best and he knows what he’s doing. We will be fine. Infact we are just fine. Now let me go make a donation to the athletic department. You should too instead of whining about a 7-5 as if you could do a better job yourself coaching this team, ridiculous!
This is a losers mentality. You think Campbell was happy going 7-5 and losing to powerhouses like West Virginia and Tech who he's owned since he got here? How about all the players that came back to chase a playoff berth?
What did he say about the 6-6 seasons people like you were dreaming about when he got here?

Likely going to Georgia……. and was beaten out by a better player in Freyler.

For all those talking about Young sharing snaps with Freyler the last few games, isn't it possible Isheem had talked with Coach Campbell with his intentions awhile ago? Thus CMC knew he needed the backups to get reps before bowl game, the future of the program, etc.
I mean a fan expressed to me a month ago that he could easily see Isheem not sticking around, but I thought it was because of his child and a majority of his defensive teammates graduating .

I'll support IY in whatever is best for the young man, but those of you claiming this is not a big loss are fooling yourselves. Young has been one of the best playmakers on the defense for the last two years and would likely have been their leader next year. There is more than enough room in our secondary for IY and Freyler.

The sky is not falling and I trust in Campbell to make the best of it, but this is certainly a hit.

Campbell has always played backups throughout the year. Rose and Hall weren't in on 100% of the snaps ever. Campbell believes in getting others a shot and having rested players.

Our historical winning % is 4th worst among P5 teams (NW, IU and WF are worse, maybe KSU too since MC came?), and we’ve only made a handful of bowls historically.

I’m disappointed in this season too, but I’m equally as if not more thankful that MC has gotten us to a point where 7-5 can be disappointing, especially given the B12 round robin schedule we didn’t have to face in the past.

I agree with your point.
But can we all agree as cyclone fans to stop bringing up historical win percentages and how bad things were. Like I know the W. F. Finney coached squad went winless in 1893 but let’s not let that get in the way 2021 conversions.

Young was better in 20 than 21. He became a liability in coverage in 21.
I can't claim to be a football expert, especially on the defensive side, but the back end of the defense really did seem to struggle in coverage pretty frequently. I myself don't know how much can be attributed to a single player like Isheem, but basically every big play he's made has been in the run game. Still a pretty sizable loss, need as many talented players as possible, but I'm also not convinced it's a defense killer.

That’s a fair point.
If we pulled more recent history (say 20 years before MC?), I don’t think the story is much better. Played the cupcake B12 North and struggled to reach .500.

1. 5-3 in 2000
2. 4-4 in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005
3. Under .500 in 15/20 seasons.

MC above .500 in B12 for 5 straight seasons.

Also we had 8 bowl games in 20 years and 3 in the last 10 years pre-MC.

The non-conference and early season losses mask the massive improvement in a little. Mac had a way of having great non-conference seasons, even including some victories against good Iowa teams, then getting obliterated in conference play.

CMC's overall record is the best ever, but the conference record is stunningly better.

Loser mentality.
People watch Iowa State win the ******* Fiesta Bowl last year and are still bringing up that ISU was bad when current recruits were in diapers. Iowa State MBB won 2 games last year and is now back to just outside of the top 10. Maybe ISU doesn't have to be a perennial loser just because people got used to it.
