Top 25 Ranking?

Amazing the continued love for the B1G & SEC reflected in that poll. Iowa goes down only 1 spot, but Texas goes down 9 spots. Florida gets spanked by Georgia & still is ahead of UT (as is PSU). NW is not ranked but got a bunch of votes and is in 27th even though they lost to Akron, barely beat Rutgers & Nebby and beat Wisc without its starting QB. That's what a 5-1 record in the crappy West division will get you, I suppose.

Whoa there - NW lost to Mich by 3 and beat Mich State and Purdue. Do you think Mich is crappy? That more than cancels out a loss to Akron in my book. I would put them in my top 25.
The ND game is huge for my perception of NW though.
Texas would lose to Georgia by a lot more than Fla did IMO...

NW is Prob overrated. Iowa didn't drop much because it was an absolute bloodbath for teams #15-25. Not to mention TTU was the top vote getter outside the Top 25 before this week. So basically 15-26 went 2-10. SOS is not consistently appreciated. For most voters I think it's a simple what's the record, what's the conference question.

Seriously, I cant believe anyone thought we would be ranked this week. I mean if you look at it closely the team we are now probably deserves to be but overall we are still stuck with those 3 losses. And every other team has at least 5 wins something we are missing because of that first game, another thing that hurts us by not scheduling it during the bye week.
If we were 5-2 winning any of our close losses esp. TCU we would be ranked.
If we had our first game and won and were 5-3 we would probably be ranked.
But then again if we had our first game as tune up I would say we would more than likely be 6-2 or better by now and for sure would be ranked. Personally I feel with that game 7-1 is a very likely scenario.
Ranking at this point is nice, but ultimately as long as we continue to progress and perform on the field it will eventually come. You have to realize 75% of the voters know nothing of Iowa State other than the record they see, and the stats that reflect the first several games vs the last several. Not to mention the historically low respect Iowa State has always gotten. It is going to take a little consistency to get some respect and for the recognition to follow.
We win a couple more and a few people lose here and there we will move up and by the Texas game it will be a ranked game, as long as they win too.

I didn’t think we would but I absolutely think we deserve to be ranked. Voters are bad at their jobs.

Hell, announcers are bad at their jobs, watching games these days is terrible. Listening to these announcers. None of them have a clue, and its not just in Iowa State Games. It is blatantly obvious the days of spending the week before a game researching the teams and showing up a day or two early to learn about and get a feel for the location are a thing of the past, as many or most announcers used to do. It is pretty obvious these guys show up a few minutes before the game look over the press packet and read some stats and run with it, hoping to fill a broadcast, and expecting the production staff to feed them with stats and info as needed. I honestly believe I spend more time reading, researching and watching college football than half the AP writers/voters and its their job.

Coaches poll is terrible. Wisconsin getting lots of votes. Road win at Iowa and absolutely nothing else.

TCU was playing good when we played them. They almost beat Ohio State. It's still a bad loss. I think we deserver to be top 25 but also understand why we are not. our record is really not a top 25 record at 4-3. I think 5-3 will look a lot better.

I don't know, it's looking more and more like the first half vs. Ohio State was the outlier. Clearly the wheels have fallen off the wagon and they were better early in the season, but I don't think you can say TCU was really playing that well. Beat some bad teams, played maybe 2.5 great quarters against OSU then completely fell apart. Did enough to beat ISU, but clearly ISU was struggling at that time.

Iowa didn't drop much because they lost to a name.
They didn't drop because nearly everybody below them also lost, and most were worse losses. Only two teams 15-25 won, one of which was Penn State. Penn State is not that good, but a close road loss to a solid team isn't going to hurt you that much any week. When you factor that it was an unprecedented day of losses in the lower part of the top 25, it makes sense they didn't drop much. Not to mention the top team receiving votes (TTU) also lost.

I thought there would be an outside shot at ISU getting in because so many teams at the bottom half of the top 25 lost. Yes, I think ISU is one of the best 25 teams right now, but you still have to look at the resume of the entire season.

If the first game was played and won we might be there.
It's not hard to justify holding 4-3 out.

AP rankings are really just validation, but who really cares what a hodgepodge of media members think? Hopefully, you are secure enough in your fandom to know that ISU has a solid team and if they truly are, the rest will sort it self out.

FYI, most analytics-based rrankings have ISU around #30 (S&P+ #37, ELO #17, FPI #29, Sagarin #30, CFB Analytics #30).

Agree - it's dumb that an FCS game is probably the difference, but 4-3 is just hard for people to justify in the polls.

I could use some help figuring out how Oklahoma State received 31 votes in the Coaches Poll, yet ISU received only 6.

In fact, here is how the voting has gone:

Week 8:
ISU - 3 votes (this was after beating #6 WVU)
OK State - 0 votes (lost to Kansas State)

Week 9:
ISU - 0 votes (Bye Week)
OK State - 0 votes (Bye Week)

Week 10:
OK State - 31 votes (beat #6 Texas)
ISU - 6 votes
