Toledo

You no longer think that we will get 4-5 wins? I would really like to know what you had our predicted record at after the OSU game.

That's kind of the interesting thing to me. If you would have said we would be 1-4 through 5 before the season I think people would have thought that was pretty realistic and 2-3 was probably the top end of predictions. Add on top of that that every team is what we thought they were and I don't get the outrage. Losing to NDSU is bad no matter how you cut it but that's a good football team at the FBS level. Physically, I haven't thought we were just brutally outmatched by anyone. That, of course, indicts teaching. Football is a fickle *****. Catch a kickoff and make one tackle and who knows yesterday. Review a play against KSU and who knows. To me, this team isn't far off. The problem is that for a lot of last year they weren't far off so how long until enough is enough? I don't know. I know that this team has competed it's *** off in every game but one. I don't know if many teams have played the 5 game stretch we have played. Yeah, sure, in the Big Ten we are probably at least a 6 win team. That doesn't matter because we aren't in the Big Ten. You have to compete where you are. I honestly don't see any real shellackings the rest of this season.

Excellent post. We've lost a "must-win" game and won one against a more highly regarded team. Here is another "must-win" and we should do it. Fight on, if so; fight on (oh Jesus), if not.

Our SOS is now #2. Some of our fans seem to think we've been playing all scrubs.

Last year when we beat Toledo, our offense looked good and the guys looked confident going into the next game. Of course, that next game we got screwed over and the confidence went out the window again.

Toledo is 4-2 (4-0 in MAC play) and have some weapons on offense. They are pretty balanced, but their backfield has been very productive and this could pose a problem for us. They have 4 guys with over 30 carries and they all average over 5 yards per carry. The top two guys average 8.9 and 7.9 ypc. They average 6.1 as a team and have 15 rushing TDs. We know how bad our rush D is. We have only given up 1 or 2 passing TDs on the season if I'm not mistaken, but Toledo can throw the ball some as well. Their QBs numbers are very similar to Richardson's. Cory Jones is is good WR and Alonzo Russell is a deep threat. Their O-Line is under rated. They only give up around 1.5 sacks per game and open a lot of holes for the runners.

They have a physical D that will bring pressure and they are great against the run, but their secondary is not all that great. We can beat them with our passing game easily.

Special teams they are pretty good. They have good return guys and a good kicker. Their punter is average and from what I have seen, their kickoff coverage is not the best. Maybe we will run the ball out from a yard deep in this game.

Don't think that this is going to be an easy game. Toledo is very good and really well coached. It's going to be a good game, but I think our offense will finally get things going and we win this one 38-35.

Are you thinking about Tulsa perhaps? Pretty sure we didn't play Toledo. Otherwise, pretty good analysis of Toledo.

My thoughts exactly. The woe is me crowd will try to refute that by saying we've been getting destroyed in the 4 losses. In today's day and age were there are way more possessions per game than just a few years ago, getting beat by 21 and 17 just isn't the same thing. Especially when its against teams that do that to nearly everyone they play.

I'll believe it when I see it. For now, we can't beat anybody with our passing game. Injuries, cases of the dropsies (with Bibbs as a notable exception), and lack of getting separation have made me quite skeptical of getting a 'W' next week. I hope I am wrong, but nothing, absolutely nothing this year, has given me any realistic expectation that we can beat anybody with our passing game. The only hope I have is that Wally's D can create 4-5 turnovers to put us in the red zone, or get a defensive score. If this happens, we might be able to get to that magical 24 point total & pull off the win.

How can Toledo's OL be underrated? Steele's rated it as the 14th best in the nation.

Toledo is minus starting QB, RB, DT, 2 CB's, and the 2nd team OG.'s

Yeah but our starters could defeat your starters if our offensive coordinator was here for four years, the refs didn't screw us and our players just executed and did what the coaches tell them to do.

Anyways, the team that puts the most points on the scoreboard Saturday will be the winner. And I'm going to have a good time, win or lose.

Not true. If you look at my blog (i have stopped writing now) to the preseason predictions I have been extremely high on the cyclones. Sadly I have been wrong. No development during this regime. I am at a point where I have zero hopes for us winning games this season. I could not even take any pleasure in beating Iowa. I sure hope we can win against Toledo and KU but I would not be surprised if we lost those games either. Just the way things have fallen with this regime.

Sounds like you give up on a lot of things.
