TJ vs. the Top 10

Gonzaga has had some great players and in college BB you can be a really good team with one great player, but their conference is so weak and I think they suffer from that when they get into the tourney and have to play good teams every round. Going 10-8 in the Big 12 is better prep for the post-season than going 14-2 in the WCC.
They've made (at least) the 2nd weekend for 9 straight years. Really suffering...

Fran McCaffery is an amazing coach and they should give him a lifetime contract:mccaffery:

But the next coach will be as bad as Lick for sure!!!

That mindset cost them a full generation of basketball.

Well I mean he was paying players for the last 20 years before anyone else was allowed to do it. And there is proof
I agree that Kansas was cheating.. I also think Kansas was cheating more than a lot of other teams.

But let’s be honest, I was a student when Royce was in town. He sure had a really nice car. So did Deandre Kane.

I mean they’ve had 2 appearances in the title game in the past 6-7 years. It’s really really hard to win a championship.
Definitely agree. I would obviously be ecstatic with that.

Using sportsreference.com and counting individually, TJ is 10-9 at Iowa State and 11-11 overall. His ISU record puts him at 2nd behind Self and his overall puts him at 3rd behind Cal. No idea why he wouldn't be on this list but oh well.
I was going to say sample size, but sampson is in there with only 18 attempts. Apparently TJ isn't "notable"

Edit: for some reason they did not include sampson's stops at wash st, indiana, or oklahome so he would clearly have more than 18 attempts.

This just tells me that Mark Few and Gonzaga are very overrated and why they shouldn’t be in the Big 12. .323 against top 10 yet win 25-30 games per year. lol. Cupcakes abound. Also, lol at Mad Fran’s record.
Big difference is they probably have to do all that on the road and on neutral courts. I’m guessing they have never hosted a top 10 team in Spokane. Take home games out for all these guys and they’d be lucky to be over .300 I bet.

I'm not going to take the time to go through but it could very well be those coaches at their current schools.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought, "Top Ten" are going down! TJ's record will only improve against them

Wr are still looking for our 2nd final 4 I believe. I doubt if any of us posing on CF were around the 1st time.:(

I know the '44 Final Four is always going to be part of Cyclone lore.

But man that's so long ago...

And the game and sport is so different now...

There were only eight teams in the tournament...

And it was during the war so everything was weird...

I don't know how much it even "counts."

Everyone has already discounted the ISU 2020 FB season, let's not start attacking ISU's Final Four team as well...

That team had a roster that was constantly in flux as players were called away for service or dropped in to Ames mid-season.

For the Final Four they had to travel the day of the game and play knowing they would have to forfeit the next game even if they won due to Naval rules not allowing them to be out of town for any extended period of time. The other teams were in town the day before and were able to practice on the court. ISU first touched the court during pre-game warm-ups.

While the war gave them some advantages, it also came with disadvantages. They earned it.

EDIT: I wrote this partly wrong. They played in the west region of 4 teams and beat Pepperdine in their first game. They would have had to forfeit their spot in the championship game (played in NYC at MSG) if they won their next game. They got beat in that game and had to hustle right back to Ames so they were back by 0800 to satisfy the Navy's 48 hour rule. There was no way they were getting to NYC and back in 48 hours if they qualified for the championship.

Was it a big crowd when you were there?

I discount any achievements in tourneys that didn't have at least 64 teams.
