Timmy B lovin' on them Clones ...

War' the Hoks?

Tim Brando clearly has never seen a Cyclone Football season opener.

Probably not, but he's called the games when we beat highly ranked TCU and WVU teams in Jack Trice, and he was blown away by the home crowd and by Campbell. He's got a real soft spot for the Cyclones, but he's not the only one picking us as a dark horse this year.

If the guys in our secondary were bigger and stronger, I would say we are a Top 10 team. But they aren't, and Notre Dame really took advantage of us. I don't see where the guys have gotten much bigger over the last 9 months.

I don’t think size in the secondary was the issue in that game.

Also, we have indeed gotten “bigger” in the secondary. Lewis was 5’11 185, and Isheem Young is 5’10 208. Anthony Johnson is 192... up from 186.

It's kinda scary seeing how small our safeties are. Particularly the backups (King and Miller). The lack of depth at LB is also scary. I was a bit worried about the d-line at the end of last season, after losing Jamahl, Lima and Leo, but I really like the players on the two-deeps that are listed. I absolutely love seeing T.J. Tampa and Daniel Jackson on the list. And Easton Dean, assuming he ends up being as good as we have heard he will be.
To be honest, my impression was that D.J. Miller and Kym-Mani were the next two most experienced guys, so they stuck them on the depth chart where they could.

I’d expect Miller to be the “real” backup FS, and for SS Isheem maybe would slide back there while Azunna takes Star, for example. For that matter, I’ll expect Isheem to be at SS in ‘21.

After all, the “real” linebacker depth chart probably has Rose as the backup in the middle, and Hummel the “real” backup at Sam.

I don’t think this depth chart is more than a guideline—and I’d expect the five freshman safeties (redshirt and true) to start to break through before long.

The one reasonably reliable thing that I was pleased to see was that I wasn’t wrong about is Grant Treiber being at LT rather than on the right. I think that young man has an amazing future.

Timmy B. was on Finebaum's show yesterday and spent a lot of time explaining his ISU pick at six. He said he was getting a lot of blowback for that one. Not surprisingly. But he also said Ku would win four or five this year. So ...

Well, he’s 50-50 then. Better than most!

If Iowa State could steal a couple REALLY good 300+ lb O linemen who were about juniors, I could believe it. Still trying to shake that ND beatdown..

It really showed how far we are from those blue blood programs. I like that our fanbase has backed off on expectations for this season. Not that we aren't confident in Campbell and the team, but it seems like there is far less kool aid going around this season. Obviously the pandemic has something to do with that. And it won't curtail the meltdowns when we lose, but at least we aren't flying too far off the handle at this point in the season. I had a few friends calling for 10 wins last season. I thought 9-3. I'll be very happy with 7-3 and kinda expect 6-4 in 2020.

I might give him the benefit of the doubt on the 4 or 5 win prediction if it was a normal year and KU was able to start the season with three patsies, but he is talking about KU getting at least 3 or 4 Big 12 wins. What could he possibly see that would suggest that?

Love the recognition!

I wish I could be that positive though..... I'm worried about just winning tomorrow!

We have too many question marks yet for me to believe the hype.

Yeah, I'll be shocked if the j'birds win a single B12 game. They have some receivers but have not yet settled on a QB and their o'line is questionable once more. They lost Mike Lee off their defense. He was a stud safety. They do have Pooka Williams back. I guess he's good although you'd never know it by his play against K-State. We'll see ...

As I wrote earlier, Tim Brando is buds with Les Miles. So, that probably gets reflected in Brando's positive forecast. Plus, Tim's calling tomorrow's game in Lawrence.

Did he have to explain to Finebaum that Iowa State was part of the Big 12 and that they actually beat Alabama in a bowl game?

No, he said Purdy is a legit Heisman candidate. Great tight ends. Splendid tailback. That the defense will be the best in the B12. And that Matt Campbell is a great coach. Also, ISU only lost last year in close games, each of which they could have won, sans ND. And so, this is the year of the Clone to his way of thinking. Sound logic. We'll see ...
