Last night's game showed why he is so important to the team. Despite his shooting slump, he had 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists, and passed after penetrating which led to other players being open.

Some players just play better as starters and he may be one of them. No game better than the OSU game to see how he does as a starter considering how depleted OSU is right now (19 pts/game lost due to dismissals). That doesn't mean he would necessarily get more PT than he is right now or TH get less. The team just needs to get him back to playing offensively like he did last year and this might do the trick. Lard was progressing nicely to getting back into the starting lineup before his injury so he looks on track to get back to optimal playing form.
His ability to create shots is unmatched by anyone else on our team

What we need to know? Did you see the end of the KSU game? Missed FT, matador defense, rushed poor last shot. Under the logic of “him being in” is all we need to know, wouldn’t him not starting really be all we need to know about starting him?

The obsession with advanced stats is far less than those fooled by points/gm and highlight plays.

Wigginton is a great athlete, volume guy. Maybe he improves at some point to earn the starting job, or maybe politics comes into play, but he’s getting more than his fair share as it is.

THT should get the ball more as the facilitator imo.

Missed freethrow is now a sign he is not playing well? lol He got beat by one of the best players in the league? shocking

The advanced stats show Wigginton is a pretty good facilitator and so do my eyes. No one is being fooled by ppg or highlights. If you actually look at the numbers you say you look at and watch the games you will see a player is starting to come along. He is missing shots he made more often last year. If he shoots the same percentage as he did last year his offensive efficiency would look a lot better. He is rebounding, he is moving the ball and getting assists and he looked better on D last night than he did the previous couple games.

And you must not know much about basketball to think that who a coach plays at the end of games tells you who the coach trusts the most and wants out there in those situations.

Learn the game.

Benching Halliburton makes the most sense if you want to start Wigginton. THT is too valuable on 4/5 defense to sit him at the start of the game.

In a thread about whether the staff is making the correct decision about not starting him, you claimed him being in at the end, a coach’s decision, is all we need to know. Lol. How about the Prohm’s decision to not start him is all we need to know about him starting or not? Then you also made appeal to watching his play speak, not stats.

Your post was a logical contradiction that only someone that hasn’t watched the games would make.

He was in against KSU at the end, and we paid for it. He was the opposite of clutch. Call it what you want, but a big missed FT from an average FT shooter doesn’t align with the type of player many here think he is. He didn’t get beat on defense by Brown as much as he gave poor effort and let him go to the bucket. Do you watch the games?

He’s getting better at facilitating, but the bar is low. The “coming along” narrative is great if the context were whether Lewis should get 10 minutes. Coming along isn’t grounds for starting on a good Big 12 team. THT is coming along, with good A:TO numbers and better flexibility on defense.

It is clear you don't know what logic is by this post. Learn the game.

Also, you are putting words in my mouth. That is cool though because it is clear you need to create strawman arguments to try and prove a point. That is the sign of someone who doesn't know the game. Learn the game.

It is clear you don't know much about the game based on the free throw comment. lol Again learn the game. You want me to make a list of great players that have missed free throws at the end of games. That doesn't tell you much about a player. The fact you think this is some great example is a clear sign you have no idea what you are talking about.

There are too many things wrong here to even begin to address them. As I said, "learn the game". It is clear you need some help in that department.

You were a wrestler that spent some time watching kids play at the Rec, weren’t you? Maybe played some pickup with a women’s ball on the 8-foot hoop?

You’re sticking with Prohm’s decision to have Wigginton in the end of the games (one in which he did several things poorly, no less) as your reasoning as to why Prohm’s decision to not start him is wrong? You may have CTE.

Yep. That tool. Lol. LTG*

I was saying that Prohm thinks enough of his play that he is one of the guys he chooses to play at the end of games. Learn the game. I didn't say his decision to not start him was wrong. I just think he should start. Apparently that is offensive to you in some way I don't understand. Maybe it is because you don't know the game. LTG

You think it is funny to joke about someone having CTE when people die from that? Cool.

Wigginton in conference play among players that have played major minutes (over 100):

2nd on the team in rebounding percentage behind Jacobson
2nd on the team in assist percentage behind Haliburton.
1st on the team in FTr in players who have played more than 100 minutes
Tied for 2nd in steal percentage with Haliburton and right behind Weiler-Babb.
3rd lowest TO% and is better than Haliburton, Shayok and Weiler-Babb.
1st on the team in defensive efficiency rating.

I'm perplexed by why he doesn't start Wigg at this point. The guy has proven himself as a leader of this team. The only two logical replacements at this point are THT or NWB as you cannot take TH off the floor.
NWB is our best ball handler and steadiest hand, proved it last night when he was off the floor and Tech pressed. He has to be out there.

You put that first part better than I did.

I love Jacobson, but Lard is the man if he continues to play like he started to right before the injury, as he has many natural gifts that Jacobson doesn't have (a little bigger, stronger and a rim protector). Still a spot for Jacobson in any scenario, but Lard may take the starts (it would be a great sign if he could).
Jacobson ain't losing his starting spot.

LTG is exactly right. For those like you that value highlights and per game numbers inflated by high volume, Wigginton is playing well enough to start. But that’s not the game. Currently he’s not effective and efficient enough in all aspect to beat out Babb, Haliburton, or Shayok, and THT is more positionless.

He is getting over 25 minutes on average, that’s more than enough to get him going. If he improves he’ll get more, or perhaps Prohm gives into the politics of hype.

Agreed, he is the only one on the team who can create shots for himself even when being closely defended. Anybody know what Wiggy's +- is?
NWB and Shayok do a pretty good job of getting their own shot. They're just not as athletic as Wigginton is.

That was not the point of the post. BECAUSE Wigg is "not effective and efficient enough" as you put it coming off the bench despite playing 25 minutes/game, perhaps he would be more productive as a starter. In which case the OSU game, being at home and them being depleted, may be the lowest risk game left in which to try this. Sitting on the bench and then having to enter a game is more difficult as a scorer as it takes time to warm up and get into the rhythm of the game. Some are better able to do this than others, some are better able to do this if they start the game.

The only data we have this season is: (1) he has not been as effective coming off the bench as he was as he has in the past; and (2) the only game in which he started this season, he scored 13 points, 5/11 from the field, and 3/6 from 3-pt range, with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.

I think that warrants at least some consideration for trying him again as a starter.

I'm fine with how Prohm is doing it right now. Like many in this thread have said, Wigginton finished the game and played 30 minutes. If it helps THT's confidence to start, let him start. I would just like to see Wigginton come in a little sooner than the 13-14 minute mark. Especially when we start a game shooting the ball like we did last night.

If you like winning, you play Halliburton as many minutes as he can handle while playing with high energy. I agree that LW should play a lot of minutes, but I don't think those minutes come from TH unless he's gassed.
Tyrese is my favorite player, but he was doing nothing for us yesterday when we needed someone to generate offense. He took a few 3's but too my memory missed them all. He just isn't there yet for offense. You may be right to just distribute the minutes more evenly, It's just really hard to balance this years talent pool.

Tyrese isn't in there to score. He's in there to create and play defense. When he scores it's an added bonus.

I understand that, but we started to fade when Wigginton wasn't in the game. I don't know who needs to sit more, maybe THT?
