Thomas Pollard to Iowa State

I heard our AD slept with Thomas's mom

I'm not sure most people realize how talented he is. He ran a 15:04 at state cross country. That's a 5k, 3.1 miles, in 15:04. I'd be lucky to do a 1k that fast.

Jesus, in Basic Training, the best shape of my life, I ran two miles in 13:01. I can't imagine running a 15:04 5k.

Wow, my best ever is 26+ minutes and I had to train and work my butt off to get that.

I ran an 18:18 once in high school. A full minute faster than my next best time. I was the best runner on my XC team and I was a full 3 minutes slower than Thomas' state time 3 minutes is an ETERNITY in XC.

Congrats Thomas thanks for picking ISU. Hope you have a great career.

So I know I'm lazy and should just look this up, but how do some of his times compare to college?
He seems to be one of the best distance high school runners in the country. Excited to see what he does at ISU.

Awesome news!! Has to be hard to turn down Stanford and Oregon. He is going to be an elite college runner.

Yeah that 5k for Pollard is nuts. What's even more amazing is the Kenyan that won the NYC Marathon yesterday in heavy head-on and cross winds ran 26.2 miles in 2 hrs 10 min, 59 sec (an average mile time of about 5 minutes). Good Lord, how is that even possible???

IHSAA - Iowa ‏@ihsaa_iowa 1h1 hour ago Thomas Pollard of Gilbert shatters the meet record in the 3A 1600M Run at 4:09.67. The previous record was 4:15.65, set by Austin in 2013.

Won the 3200 easily Thursday with a time of 9:07.41.8

Kid from Center Point-Urbana finished 2nd just 15.36 seconds behind. Don't think he cared much though, his 8 points helped CPU win the team title by 2.

My cousin ran an 8:52 3200 in high school... are we just hyping him because he's an iowa guy?

Pollard won last year's 3200 in 8:50.43, which is the all-time record in Iowa. There was a bit of a head wind this year, and the field he was facing was nowhere near his caliber. Put him with guys who are just as fast/faster, and he'll post better times. It's tough to push yourself to elite times when no one's running with you.

Hard to push yourself to those more elite times when no one's running with you; last year's crop of distance runners was the best we've seen and will see for a long time.
Aah that makes sense I was thinking that time looked slow for state.

I mean, it's not out of line with the typical winning times. No Iowa runner had broken the 9 minute mark in the 3200 prior to last year. Then both of Boone's runners (Albert Meier and Chandler Austin, the latter now running for Okie State) and Pollard all did it at either the Drake Relays or the state meet. So there were definitely some great runners to push him a year ago. Not so much this year.
