I just doubt you possess even 1% of the knowledge regarding "in game adjustments" or "X's and O's" that Steve Prohm does.
Fans have a right to judge coaches on wins and losses - they're paid to win games. But I have to laugh when fans like you rate their particular skills and abilities...
1. Well no duh, I’m not getting paid 2M to coach of course I don’t have 1% of Prohms basketball IQ
2. This is the type of conversation made for message boards. Name 1 brilliant inbounds play you saw this year. Besides benching 2 guys what adjustments were made last night?

Gosh maybe we could trade coaches with the Hawks. Mad Fran won a game in the big tourney and does not start 4 or 5 guards. And we would be assured he would throw a trantrum or worse at bad or even correct ref calls. Just what it sounds like people want.

Here’s what I have so far. What else you got? No opinions just facts.

Pros:
Treats players equally, no one above the law
Recruits at a high level
Identifies underrated talent
Cons:
Not great at managing talent/egos
Lack of in-game adjustments
Below average Xs and Os
I think this is pretty spot on. On the plus side, in game adjustments and X’s and O’s Should be the easiest things to fix by hard work or hiring the right support staff.

I’d like to see Prohm let whoever his least helpful/productive staff member go and upgrade. Is he willing to do that?

First of all, Prohm coached this team terribly all year long.

People got all excited because we won the Big 12 Tourney but we should have won the Big 12 Tourney. (We had the best roster in the Big 12)

Finishing 9-9 in conference play was really embarrassing as the Clones clearly should have won the league.

Elite teams play two big men....it's just the way it is.....look at KU, UK, UNC, Duke, etc.......

Why he didn't start a line-up of Wigginton, Shayok, Horton-Tucker, Lard, and Jacobsen is ridiculous.....people wondering why we kept getting out-rebounded and then you see four guards out there and it's not real tough.....rotating Weiler-Babb and Haliburton with the three other guards would have worked fine but instead he put the team in a bad situation at all times with NEVER having a second big on the floor.....that is a joke.

Sure, you can go to four guards at times but when you're in a big boys league you have to compete at a big boy level.....Prohm doesn't do that.

Then we once again we got to watch "stand and watch basketball" tonight as he allowed them to spend much of the first half (and many games during the regular season) with four guys on the perimeter just standing and then shooting a three-pointer with only ONE guy underneath to rebound.....we were extremely easy to to guard because our coaching was terrible....we have GREAT players that can drive to the basket in Shayok, Horton-Tucker, and Wigginton who could have been drawing fouls all first half, drawing defense for a miss and easy offensive rebound, or creating wide-open three's but no.....Steve allowed them to stand on the perimeter and shoot NBA three's......live by it and die by it.........

Then let's talk about our defense........Ohio State has a completely mediocre team without Wesson (they lost by 19 without him against Northwestern).....he's clearly their only big-time player......a good coach would double team him every time he touched it and would have forced the rest of the OSU team to beat us......not Steve.....that was just too logical of a thing to do......so he just let Wesson toy with our bigs for most of the game.......it's easy stuff that he just decided not to do.......

If people think this is just reactionary to a tough tourney loss, you don't understand the game......he's the head coach who allowed his team to have problems that led to a 9-9 Big 12 record which is downright embarrassing and now he just led us to a horrific loss to a terrible Ohio State team......if you think he's the guy to lead this program to big-time tourney runs you are wrong.......in fact he took over a program that was loaded with talent and he went to the Sweet 16 with Fred's team......then went to the round of 32, then no tourney, then now we are out in the round of 64.........it's been downhill and in four years he has a 35-37 record in Big 12 league play......that's brutal......ISU has been to the tourney 7 of 8 years but if they want to become an elite program which I believe they can become, they need a new leader.....it's real simple.

Two years ago, Beilein hired asst coach Yaklich from Illinois State just to coach D at Michigan, and the results have been dramatic.

Hope so. Lot of comments that CSP still learning. Not having a "seasoned" former head, pro, or P5 assistant coach on the bench, with some cache to help, may have been an opportunity lost, especially with the talent on this season's roster. Hobbs can't in his role, I don't think. Didn't Fred bring in Doc and Greg McD was going to bring in Nurse? Questions are how big is talent drop-off if only 2 of 3 assistant coaches are good recruiters and will that seasoned Xs and Os guy be net positive if small down-tick in talent?

We literally only play 2 freshmen and 2 sophomores, and one of those is a third year. Those guys have started 30+ games minimum. We ain’t “young” lol.
It makes you appreciate the work Drew, Beard, and Self have done.

KC was fun, but as JP would say, this team deserved to lose too often given the roster. Hopefully next year, that’s not the case.

I don't have time to read the rest of the thread but Villanova has won two of the last three national championships running primarily a 4-guard offense, so this whole "can't win with four guards" and "elite teams play two bigs" ******** can stop any time now.

Villanova has a rep of being 4 guards, but that is misleading. In 15/16 they had a 6'11" center who was a great rim protector in Ochefu. Plus Jenkins was 6'6" 240 lbs and Bridges 6'7".

Last year their 3 bigs played 70mpg- with Pascall, Spellman and Roundtree- all over 6'9". Plus it didn't hurt that just about every Villanova guard was drafted by the NBA.

A 4 guard lineup can win, but it takes 4 elite level guards who are money from 3 point land. This years ISU roster had one high volume/high make (around 40%) 3 point shooter in Wigginton. Our other two high volume 3 point shooters, NWB & THT, only shot around 33% in Big 12 play.

The number of elite teams that play a traditional 3/2 lineup far exceeds teams that play 4 guards. Also 3/2 teams are just as effective shooting 3's.

Lindell was ALWAYS going to leave after this year. It didn’t matter if he averaged 3 minutes or 38. It didn’t matter if he was drafted or not.
.....

Is this what he has said privately?

No, no, no! You either hate Prohm with the heat of a thousand suns or you love him unconditionally no matter what he does. There is no middle ground on CF.
You also hate ISU if you dislike Prohm. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

What strategy did you see? Dribble at the top of the key and run a screen after holding onto the ball for 20 seconds? Give the ball to Shayok and let him save your ass like he did in KC and other times in the year? Let Jacobson get smoked down low? No adjustments on the one player who beat us?

They ran our offense, and how do you change that for one game? OSU is a very good defensive team, and when the refs won’t whistle their big for elbows, how could you stop him aside from double teaming and leaving someone open?
