We need to get a Canuck on this roster ASAP. First team in over a decade without a Canadian, and you see what happens

I think a fair question is, how much development would we expect out of players? I think Beard is a bad example, because I think he's truly one of the best coaches at developing players that we've seen this generation. I think he might be the actual best one of his group.

Look at our rotation guys:

1. TH - fantastic development. Big jump from year 1 to year 2.
2. Bolton - improving greatly throughout this season.
3. Conditt - #327 recruit in his class. Honestly pretty good for that ranking.
4. Zion - #125 recruit in his class. Maybe can expect more from him.
5. Jackson - #210 recruit in his class. Shot is coming around.
6. Grill - #175 recruit in his class. It's early.

How much improvement do you expect out of recruits in the 200 to 300 range?

Zion's a mystery. Seems like they were talking breakout before the season and he's only played 10 minutes/night. Conditt seems to have regressed over the course of the season. Last night when he checked in, he missed a mildly contested baby hook, loafed back on defense & someone chucked a baseball pass right by his nose for an easy layup. Seems to have those typical Prohmian effort issues.

Hopefully the guys he recruited for next year can shoot. I worry that Prohm know how to use Foster

"Two games back from the top half of the league" sounds like a great motto for Iowa State basketball. Put it on the posters next year.
Although it's a little bit amusing, this just shows how top heavy the conference is. Baylor, KU, WVU, Tech and then a lot of average to below average teams.

You could realistically be like 6-12 and be in the top half of the league.

So have we decided whether Prohm should be fired yet or not?
Prohm's not going to get fired this year so give it a rest. He'll have at least next year, and most likely another year unless things are just as worse next season.

Yeah the Big 12 as a whole just isn't good this year. Baylor and Kansas are two of the best teams in the nation this year though.

We just got housed last night by a team that starts 2 fives and is the worst 3 pt shooting team in our league. Just because our coach can't figure out how to make it work doesn't mean it's not possible. It's about tailoring your strategy to the strengths of your team. There is a reason Huggy is a Hall of Famer.

The same Huggy that didn't make the Tourney last year and has made 4 of the last 7? Honestly I agree with a lot of people that Prohm isn't really a great fit here, but lets not think it is all sunshine and roses elsewhere.

I think Prohm needs to do exactly what Huggy did after last year. Get rid of guys who don't fit or aren't good enough and bring in new blood. I also think he needs to recruit guys with some more toughness. Seems like a lot of the guys he gets are soft. I think if he isn't going to play Lewis and Griffin and he thinks hey don't have what it takes, then move on. Go hard after the best transfers and Jucos remaining or any good HS decommits. in the spring from coaching changes etc.

This is what happens when you tell recruits they will start immediately (because that's how we attract players). Now the good transfers go elsewhere.

We never develop players. Is it too hard to do? An issue in football, too.

A program that hasn't played defense in this century. It would be interesting to see how many games we won over the last 20 years on a last-second 3-pointer.

The luck (and talent) has run dry.

Way up there

I was responding to a poster who said playing with two 5's and no 3pt shooters was more or less impossible. This years Huggy team is a complete 180 from his past teams, he changed how they play to suit their strengths, he didn't stick with a style that his team couldn't play. With Prohm the frustrating thing isn't that we are bad. It's that we are bad and it's like he doesn't realize it. Playing two bigs is a big switch from how his teams have played in the past, yet offensively, we are playing the same way we did with his small ball lineups. It's almost like he's accepting that we are bad and there is nothing he can do about it. At some point, he needs to get off the fence and play a style that suits the skill set of the guys he wants to play or just play small and accept the consequences of guys like TL and Zion's defensive deficiencies. Sadly, after two months of pounding a square peg in to a round hole, its too late.

This years team is better than the last Gmac team offensively but how out of sync they are on offense is almost a spitting image. Both teams coached by a man who has no clue how to use the strengths they have.
