Today was baby steps to stability. New leadership will only make this better in the coming months and years. I just cant get over how important it is to have a new man in place that will take a subjective look at this whole situation.

He always took a back seat to the actions of the league. Anyone think Scott would let a conference member leave? We need a "stronger" man in place to maintain the Texas egos.

I'm not sure you understand what a comisioner can and can't do. They have no power. That all lies with the Universities. So, unless the Us determine that it is worth kicking Texas out over third tier rights (first we must assume they are the only school that is bent on keeping them which I think is the wrong assumption) there is nothing he can do. Scott could have in no way stopped Nebraska. They can't just run around changing by laws.

So Beebe had the same power as Scott? Scott has ran circles around Beebe. Its about leadership.

The funny part is that Beebe wanted even 1st and 2nd tier all along. Bebbe probably made bad contracts but everyone seems to think he can just order everyone around. He can't. He never could. He isn't free of blame but he probably doesn't deserve everything he's gotten. In this case, he's a scapegoat which I am fine with because there needs to be a fresh start but the Universities in this league caused the problem, not him.

I agree with you but frankly he didn't do his job. Just because Beebe wanted equal revenue sharing didn't make him a genius our a martyr. People make it out like he was the sole voice of reason. Schools like KSU, KU, BU, and ISU were screaming for ERS but were outvoted because power players wanted their $$$. He should have gotten it done. It's easy to realize what should be done it's the actual making it happen is the hard part. He enabled the other schools to have their way while ignoring the what was best for the conference.

I hope that the respect that Boren seems have for Chuck Neinas is universal amongst the other presidents and ADs. I also hope that this respect translates into more cohesive communications regarding conference matters. Basically, Deloss Dodds, David Boren, Deaton and everyone else that is not the commissioner or the commisioner's delegated spokesperson needs to shut their damn pie hole when it comes to conference matters. I am disappointed that even after a 90 minute conference call these "leaders" couldn't even manage to have ONE president or chancellor have ONE press conference regarding today's developments. It is going to take a wizard to keep these egomaniacs on task and on point.

Just curious, why can't the 8 "Allied Forces" of the Big XII force UT to drop the LHN after the contract expires? Couldn't they vote on it and say, "after xx year (when LHN/ESPN agreement expires) a B12N will be made." Is there something preventing that?

Because you can't force Texas to drop their third tier rights without it impacting every school in the conference. Why should Texas be forced to drop the LHN (their third tier rights) if ISU isn't just as willing to be forced to drop Cyclone Radio Network/Cyclone Television Network/Clone Zone? For the sole reason because Texas' third tier rights are worth more? Yeah, I'm sure that would ever hold up if it went to court...

I agree with you to a point. The commish has power in things where the majority of the universities agree. Scott has a different style than Beebe, and perhaps could have convinced folks toward more common ground. I don't see him as a crony of USC, the way Beebe was perceived as being one for UT.

Stay classy...

Your right, they probably won't. We should just apply to the MWC and cut our losses.

Yes. He could do the same things. You don't think he would have liked to add OU to the PAC 10? He didn't though, right, so he doesn't have any actual power. This Larry Scott hero worship is getting weird too. He picked up two schools who actually may have hurt his conferences per school revenue. I don't see Utah or CU adding revenue greater than their share to the conference.

The SEC has individual networks.

Now if we have equal revenue sharing on Tier 1/2, we'll be fine.

The rest of the schools need to quit ******** about individual networks and either create their own, or band together and make one. If we added BYU, Louisville, and WVU, we could make a decent network with everyone minus UT, OU, and BYU.

There is a difference between networks and games being shown. What SEC school has their own network?

I agree but I think the Big 12 was too far gone because of original by laws. We were at a point where UT wasn't going to give because the conference said 3rd tier rights were theirs and NU and aTm didn't like it. Something had to give.

I don't worship the guy, but he took the best two options available to him when the UT deal fell through. I like the fact that he was proactive, and the TV deal he got for the PAC 12 along with the title game will more than pay for adding a mediocre CU and bringing in Utah, too.

I hope going forward it is the B12 commissioner giving press conferences about conference matters and not Boren, or Deaton or any individual school's President. Having 2 press conferences by two different school presidents doesn't seem like the school's are united like they should be. I understand that the new guy just got announced but in the future it has to be him.

At least Florida and Georgia have networks that use their third tier rights for about 10 million I think. Interestingly enough, Florida's also shows HS games if I'm not mistaken. The difference is that the Sunshine network and I don't know the ownership but I don't think Florida actually owns it.

Wow, ISU belongs in a BCS conference, there is no doubt about this in my mind. I am not saying ISU should do anything like that. I just hope JP will get a seat read in the Big East or the Tweast when the crap goes down again.

BTW, the same ones that are bashing on me tonight, were you the same ones bashing on me last year when I bagged on the Big 12 for being 'saved'?

Pretty obvious the Big 12 does not work...

They share with Florida St. They also show pro sports on this channel, not even close to the LHN.
Does Georgia have their own network that shows nothing but Georgia 24/7?

Nebraska was rumored to have offered to stay if UT would have given up third tier rights to the conference, but Texas wouldn't. I don't remember aTm backing that goal, though they should have. Heck they were even offered a partnership in the LHN in its infancy. Conversation between AD's is a lot less binding than a vote of the presidents. Hopefully the conference presidents (and regents) are smarter this time.

Yep. As long as we dont have a unified conference network and play like the PAC or B10, we will be facing this again. We get a 6 year rights deal, we'll be back here again in 4 years (intend to leave at end of 6 year deal) instead of just 1 or 2.

I'm going to wait to see what deal they work out before I pass judgement on whether the Big XII works or not. I think that in the end the Big XII will work out. What other BCS conference do you see opening their doors to ISU if you're that down on the Big XII?

Florida and Georgia. The SEC DOES NOT SHARE THIRD TIER RIGHTS. And it is considered one of the most stable conferences there is. And they don't share third tier rights. They don't share third tier rights. They don't share third tier rights.

In case you didn't catch it, the SEC doesn't share third tier rights.

We'll see how unified things are when they work out the conference bylaw changes under new commish for revenue sharing, third-tier networks, etc...
