The Big 12 has NOT agreed to a 6-year grant of rights. They're just talking about it, according to two people. Boards need to vote still.

This conference did not notice that nobody else likes the individual networks, nobody will take Texas with the LHN as their own. Only 10 - 15 schools can get away with these networks and guess what, none of them are joininh the big 12.

Today is the nail in the coffin for the big 12.

Dude, step away from the ledge. The SEC has the same third tier arrangement as the Big 12 does. Last I checked, teams are applying to join the SEC.

All rights or Tier 1/2? I think armageddon is a certainty now that individual networks will be allowed to continue.

The SEC has individual networks.

Now if we have equal revenue sharing on Tier 1/2, we'll be fine.

The rest of the schools need to quit ******** about individual networks and either create their own, or band together and make one. If we added BYU, Louisville, and WVU, we could make a decent network with everyone minus UT, OU, and BYU.

You mean like Pitt! UCONN, Rutgers and West Va will not be big 12 bound. Who else do you want from the Big East? L'ville or Cincy, AWESOME! Who cares about Mt. West and Conf USA.

ACC and Pac would not be above us in the pecking order if we hadn't had a completely inept commissioner and weak leadership from our flagship institutions through all this.

There's nothing inherently better about the Pac 12 or ACC and some things that are significantly worse like ISU ranking 2nd in the entire Pac 12 this year in attendance.

Going forward this conference can be the third biggest fish in the sea as far as financial clout if they start acting progressively.

All right...you win. I guess if you were talk to all the B12 administrators, they would secretly agree with you that today's announcements mean the Big 12 is now dead. Armageddon is now a certainty.

Let the OU Leaving Big 12 megathread now begin.

BTW folks....there was one...ONE 90 min call to get the process started. I think some of you are expecting a little too much out of one phone call.

Completely agree. Who is #1 is football rankings this year by conference? Big 12.

You take away all the drama from the last year and the Big 12 would only be behind the Big10 and SEC in the pecking order. TV money is basically equal or better to any other conference, competition is better in most sports to any other conference, and you have access to Texas recruiting.

The Big 12 is a very attractive conference and will continue to be if everyone can get along and get all these internal issues worked out. The Big 12's biggest issue is public perception. Give it a few years and most people will forget everything if schools can get along.

Just curious, why can't the 8 "Allied Forces" of the Big XII force UT to drop the LHN after the contract expires? Couldn't they vote on it and say, "after xx year (when LHN/ESPN agreement expires) a B12N will be made." Is there something preventing that?

Not necessarily. While their rights might be tied up until 2017, the drama could certainly start up again sooner. Say in 2015 if a couple schools say 'we intend to leave the big 12 before the 2017 football season'. They'd have their rights back (so no penalty), and we can start all this drama again. And as we know, once one school leaves, others might leave too, and just dissolve the conference and get their media rights back immediately.

6 years is way too short if we're trying to attract other members. Should be at least 10. Then again, maybe we're going to double down on the idiocy and accept someone who gives us no benefit and is desperate to be in the big 12 (TCU).

But why would people want to leave? 1st and 2nd are shared. With any luck we have a new commissioner who can push through better TV deals when it is time. The only reason anyone would leave is out of sheer jealousy which has already happened but I don't see it happening again. Set up regional networks or individual ones if need be and go from there. Besides all of that, 6 years is enough to get our existing projects paid for and greatly improve our stock if this thing does blow up.

If they sign that six year deal, none of the 3rd tier stuff matters. Get over it.

I don't know...that Texas vs. Rice football game combined with all the women's volleyball games played in Austin could just get OU irked too much. And women's gymnastics...

Hell just froze over I agree with no1fan. Who in their right mind after every conference member has spent the last three weeks looking out for themselves thinks stability and the key, trust, will be made over a 90 minute call? Thank God this conference is under new leadership that will bring healing and an outside opinion. Getting rid of Beebe just saved this league. Reading about this new guy he seems to be a no BS guy and will look subjectively at the situation. Once trust is regained over the next year and the new ESPN contract comes up this league will prosper.

The funny part is that Beebe wanted even 1st and 2nd tier all along. Bebbe probably made bad contracts but everyone seems to think he can just order everyone around. He can't. He never could. He isn't free of blame but he probably doesn't deserve everything he's gotten. In this case, he's a scapegoat which I am fine with because there needs to be a fresh start but the Universities in this league caused the problem, not him.

Today was baby steps to stability. New leadership will only make this better in the coming months and years. I just cant get over how important it is to have a new man in place that will take a subjective look at this whole situation.

He always took a back seat to the actions of the league. Anyone think Scott would let a conference member leave? We need a "stronger" man in place to maintain the Texas egos.

Exactly what power would scott have had to keep Nebraska here? When UT refused to commit its third tier rights to the league, Nebraska was gone. Simple as that.

Beebe's goose was cooked when he called that teleconference without OU and UT and told everyone to work on Texas. It made him expendable in the eyes of OU and an easy person to blame for chaos of the last three weeks. It's his job to work with all of the teams in the conference, until like aTm they announce they're gone. Once you start excluding members before they're gone and having meetings with only part of the membership, you're playing into the discord rather than solving it. I feel a bit sorry for the man, but for the check he got to leave, not that sorry...
