No one died, but for about the last 20 minutes you couldn't stop watching. Beautifully done.
I feel kind of the same way - not in the "My friend is dead" sense, but in the "My friend just moved to Austin" sense.

He needed to have that focused obliviousness, or it wouldn't be right. Jim and Pam will watch that video 1000 times.
Thought it would've been a nice touch when they all came out into the parking lot if the gate had been locked, throw a little bone to Hank the security guard.
But all in all, a solid finale.

I haven't watched this show for the last 3 seasons but I was very sad to see it end last night. The clips of the old episodes made me remember how great the show was in its early years. I got into The Office a little bit late, but I'm pretty sure I watched seasons 2-3 in about a 2 day span.
The other thing I realized is how much that show launched careers. Ed Helms is everywhere now, and same for the guy who played Darryl. Rainn Wilson was a complete unknown before the show, and while he doesn't exactly see him in a ton of stuff he is much more popular now. Same for John Kr--however you spell it.

Dang I almost cried last night. So many storylines that got tied up last night in a perfect way.
I think the review I read on the A.V. Club said it best: (paraphrasing) it was not the best episode the show's ever done, and probably not one I'll be excited to catch in re-runs 5 years from now, but it was EXACTLY what that finale needed to be.
Dang good episode. They wrapped everything up real nice and tight, but was more than just a "what happens afterwards" episode
We've been watching the series from beginning to end, and yes, even enjoyed some of the non-Michael seasons. I don't read up on a lot of the online chatter, so I've been really surprised to see how many people hated the new characters (especially Andy?!) The only one I could say I truly disliked (at first) was Catherine Tate's character, but having recently gotten into Doctor Who and seeing her as one of the companions, I completely get her sense of humor now.
I thought it was an outstanding finale. There were plenty of tear-jerking moments, lots of laughs, and everything in between that made the show such a joy to watch in the past. Michael Scott's return was expected and yet unexpected at the same time... I would have been disappointed if he didn't show up, but it wouldn't have surprised me if he didn't. My favorite line from the end was from Andy: "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good ole days before you've actually left them." So true, so true.

The writers and cast outdid themselves. For as terrible as the last two seasons were, the last three episodes were a nice rally and and sendoff. Kudos to NBC (not known for getting much of anything right these days) for giving the show the extra time it needed to do the finale the right way.
I was gonna read through this entire thread until I read 30 posts of arguing on the first page.
I've loved The Office since day 1 and I'm really sad to see it end. I was so glad Michael was back for the finale even though he wasn't focused on which is perfectly fine.

It was a good finale. The last 3 weeks have been some good episodes. And I suspect that a lot of the so-called bad season episodes will hold up better over time (i.e. you might actually like catching them in reruns in a couple of years).

My thoughts:
-Only a couple years have passed yet they seemed to make it feel like Michael Scott had aged a ton. Still love that he was in the finale, but not focused on. He already got his closu.re
-Loved how all the characters had closure in their own quirky way. Wish they would have brought Jan back. She was a major part of the first half of the show.
-Really wish they would have had Todd Packer in a small part somehow.
-Can't wait to go back thru all my dvds and start the series over.

Jan and Packer both already had call backs earlier in the season. Focusing on the actual Scranton employees was the right call. (Also, I can't stand Packer. Never enjoyed him on the show.)
