The day the buffalo got loose...

I was standing in the tunnel line also that year. I usually stopped at the bar on the way to the games and ended up sitting in the endzone seats on the SW corner. We were carring a banner that said CU had the soggiest chips around, with a big cow pie pictured on it.

I thought there was no way someone would scold you guys for this great story but then I turn around there is "mom" and "dad"....brianhos and isufan. Good grief guys, how in the world can you look down your nose on throwing fruit at a buffalo like 30 years ago???

Did I look down upon anyone here? No. I agreed with Brian that the Buffalo one of the coolest mascots in CFB.

Get a grip and obsess over something else.

Bevo is cooler than the buffalo in my opinion.

I went to the CU/ISU game a few years ago and saw the little show they put on with running the buffalo around. It's so tame, he runs like 30 yards before the have to calm him down so he doesn't freak out in front of 60,000 people. Cool, but not the end all be all of college football.

I thought of Bevo as well. I have not seen Bevo in person though. I have seen the CU buffalo and it's pretty neat.

Put yourself in our shoes...everybody would beat the.....out of Iowa State. The wins didn't come often, but students showed up in mass for everygame. We interacted with the players on the field before and after games. And CU had the nerve to bring a live buffalo on OUR field. Mascot or not, the student body of Iowa State did not like it. And quite frankly, the players loved what happened that day. We were on the field for them. It was a different time, but a blast.

Good grief...I don't care what you did over 30 years ago. If I would've been there, I would have laughed. Of course, until someone got hurt.

I wouldn't do it today, but contrary to what someone tried to paint me as, I am not getting on ya for doing it.

All you need is good aim and one shot, and you can nab yourself 989 pounds of buffalo. Unfortunately, you can only carry 200 back to your wagon. Meager rations and exhaustive pace for everybody!

Pelting a buffalo is cool? Ok, you and I differ on this. I know it will not be popular, but colorado has one of the coolest mascots and best ways to enter the field on college football. This would be like booing the A&M band!

Yeah - it would be like throwing things at the Boomer Schooner. Not cool.

I was a student at Iowa State in 1972 when we played Colorado. Normal proceedure was to get to the gate of Clyde Williams Stadium around 7:30 am (this was before tailgating was popular) and drink beer and get in the stadium first to sit on the 50 yard line. The entire west side was open seating. Before the team came on the field, students would form a human tunnel for the players to run through. After they ran on the field, CU ran on the field with their buffalo. A number of students (including me) were armed with oranges and apples and started pelting the live buffalo. It went crazy, got lose and pandmonium broke out. It ran all over the field until security people, and the CU people could subdue it. We went back to our seats on the 50 to watch the game. Two years later, they did not bring the live buffalo along.

Too bad the tunnels went away!
