The Best Team Doesnt Always win this Game

Yes, they were. Beat a Michigan team that won the Sugar Bowl and won 4 games against teams that went to bowl games, we only beat 2 teams that went to bowl games.

What 4 bowl teams did they beat? They lost to an awful Minnesota team and we beat Oklahoma State that season. We played 7 ranked teams in the regular that year, they played 3. We were absolutely the better team that year

The bottom line is that if Iowa was clearly better than ISU than they would roll over the Clones like they did in the 80's and 90's. If the Hawk loose or struggle in this game that will be a pretty solid indication of just how good/bad they are. There is no magic, voodoo, or spirit of Jack Trice that helps ISU in these games.

I can think of several seasons where Iowa was the better team, but lost to us: 2007,2011,2014 are the ones that come to mind. 2002 is a different animal, if that game was played in November Iowa wins by 40

Iowa was 6-6 in 2007 with some bad losses. That was not a good team at all.

Iowa was 7-6 in 2011 and ISU was 6-7 not much difference there.

Iowa as a 7-6 in 2014, with a weak schedule and some bad losses even though ISU didn't have a good season that Iowa team was not good at all.

Pitt, Northwestern, Purdue, and Michigan. We lost our 7 games by an average of 19.7 points and Iowa lost their 6 games by an average of 10 points. We won our 6 games by an average of 8.5 points per game(only 3.4 if you exclude the TTU game) and Iowa won their 7 games by an average of 15.4 points per game.

We went 3-9 in 2007 with losses to Kent State, UNI, and Toledo. We were worse than Iowa that year. In 2014 we went 2-10 and gave up 30 points in every game except for Iowa. As average as Iowa's 2014 team was they were only 2 or 3 plays away from winning the division. The argument wasn't that Iowa had good teams in 2007, 2011, or 2014, the argument was that they had better teams than we did.

I forgot 6-7 Northwestern and Pitt were much better than 5-7 Uconn and Texas Tech.

We played a much harder schedule so I would hope their margin of victory was bigger. We had by far the best win of the two teams, they had the worst loss and beat them head to head

Both teams were bad. Just difference degrees of bad.

2011 Sagarin Ratings

Iowa State - 43
Iowa - 45
Sagarin ratings greatly overrated the Big 12 that year. TAMU was 14, Texas was 17, and Mizzou was 16 in Sagarin, despite none of the 3 being in the final AP or coaches poll that year. Sagarin also had OU at 4 but the AP poll had them at 16 and the coaches at 15.

Cool. Iowa wasn't better than Iowa State that year as I've proven but you can keep defending them

10-10 in the last twenty games with Iowa. Since Iowa is always the better team it appears the better team only wins 50% of the time. This should be a national story as it establishes new metrics that need to be calculated into the college football playoff system. Just sayin'.

Iowa was awful in 2012. Not as good as their record in 2014. Upsets can happen but I think the better team usually wins. When Iowa wins this game they usually go on to have a decent year. When they lose they usually have a down year (besides 02). Despite the h2h being close, Iowa has had the higher highs and we have had lower lows. Not to mention the all-time h2h in their favor. Which summarizes why the Iowa fan feels superior.

Iowa also plays a JV schedule compared to us so they should have higher highs

This post reminds me of the old joke. If you're going to drink on the job, drink whiskey. Then, people will know you're drunk. If you drink vodka, they'll think you're stupid. What is a fluck for starters?

Go back to the choke eye board TROLL..................................

The best team always wins, maybe they aren't the best team the whole year but if you lose, you weren't the better team. Who cares who is better 2 months from now.

This is true. That 2014 team had last quarter rallies to pull out games against Pitt and Ball State and barely beat UNI in their opener.

LOL okay Hawk. So the one objective measure that showed ISU was better is wrong? Hawk logic at its very best.

Kind of like the "if we only played at the end of the year." Remember that line, Hawk. Then they did play. Guess what happened...... ISU won.

Iowa has a weak schedule. It inflates their wins. Only a fool can't see that.

Ps the local jh is undefeated. They are much better than Iowa.

Iowa loses to ISU but shows how good it REALLY is by beating Purdue, Illinois, Indiana etc.

ISU and Iowa each have 3 wins vs the top 25 in the last 5 years. Tough convincing someone how amazing you are when thats all you can show.
