Thank you team

Not sure if it's been said, but I hope the expectations don't outpace the team. We gotta remember this year was wayyyyyyy ahead of expectations. Expecting (not saying you are) a 5 seed next year isn't fair, IMO. Hope to make the tourney, but don't think it should even be an expectation at this point. We're still building.
Very true. For me I think that's our best case scenario, which includes keeping Brockington, AJ Green coming in, Tre and Eli King being good, and some nice pieces coming in from the portal. Most likely result next season is probably near the bubble again as it seems like the conference will soften up just a little and we should improve.

Incredible year. I've never seen a team play so far above their talent level. We honestly are starting certain players that would be lucky to avg 10 minutes on any other Big XII team. To make the sweet sixteen is a credit to this coaching staff and players. The staff had to convince this team they would need to grind out every win through sheer effort. Credit to the team for answering the call and going out and giving their all this season.

I said this to my friends tonight and it echos earlier comments and comments about Cyclone football. In college sports at a place like Iowa State we need to establish a baseline level of success that creates continuing opportunities for post season success when luck goes your way.

For football, that’s consistently going to bowl games, 6-8 wins, etc and then you’re gonna have more chances for the special years when you get the bounces and win 9-10 games. For basketball, that’s consistently finishing in the top half of the conference and earning NCAA bids. Do that year after year and eventually there will be those lucky years with a sweet sixteen or better.

I think we’re gonna do that with TJ. He’s building this strong foundation and culture of effort and habits that will lead to success on the whole. I think that’s especially important to remember for basketball with the single elimination tournament where one lucky or unlucky or unusual game can drastically change or disrupt expectations.

As fans experienced with football this season, just because you have most of your players back, things can turn out differently. I mean, its sports. Agree on the foundation. It will be interesting to see as new members come into the program, if they all can flat out play team defense as a group like this (perhaps under-talented in some respects) team did.

Thanks Clones! You guys played your hearts out every game. Love your enthusiasm, effort, love for the game and your teammates. Great job getting to the Sweet 16 and making it a very enjoyable 2021-22 BB season!

See you next year!

I'll echo what others said. There's certainly been better ISU teams, but this one will always be special for the story line and turnaround. I'm just so glad to care about ISU basketball again after the last couple years of apathy.

On another note, I think the thing I'm most excited about is I truly think we have our coach for the next 20+ years as long as he keeps the train rolling. TJ loves this place and I don't ever see him leaving us. Special time to be an ISU fan

Cyclone basketball has always been one of my favorite things and something I’ve been passionate about for as long as I can remember. It’s cheesy but the excitement and energy and magic being completely gone was really depressing to me. More than anything I’m just so happy that this team made me remember how awesome Iowa State hoops can feel.

As Campbell says, maximize your potential. I thought this team did that. They didn’t overachieve. I don’t believe in that, because that’s saying you played better than you could which isn’t possible. They played to their potential, which is all you can ever ask.

This team had heart that is for sure. We really had no business winning 2 games in the tourney this year. Finally have basketball that isn't painful to watch...seems like a win to me

Just couldn't make shots.
But this team is unforgettable. What an inspiring group!
3 point shooting and turnovers were a huge problem. 11 steals by Miami.
Love this team. One of my all time favorites.
I predicted 9 wins pre season. Great turnaround by TJ and Staff. More good years ahead. Portal time!
