Texas, Oklahoma, and $EC? Thoughts?

I personally think OU ends up staying and texas goes independent

I’m not too confident at this point, but it was interesting reading the Reddit thread last night. Most OU fans that posted absolutely hated the idea. I think there is some loyalty among the fans for the Big 8 peers. But fan sentiment doesn’t matter.

I know, right? I mean, there's already so many threads about this where this question has been asked. Love you @tolfbfan, but why did you need to create yet another redundant thread?
This is the only place I go, never even thought about league page Sorry. I have football only brain. I think ISU needs to listen to CMC if things start moving. We need to be in Big 10 in my humble opinion. That is why I posted here. We get in Big 10, CMC never ever leaves! My cocky opinion. I'm putting on my nut cup for the first time!

If the SEC is really going to break the NCAA, why are they going to stop at 16? Add tOSU and Michigan from the BIG, Clemson and FSU from the ACC, UCLA and USC from the PAC...grab two more (Ped State, Oregon, etc.) and now you have two 12 team divisions. As for the BIG and the SEC teaming up...I just can't see it, especially given the BIG's emphasis on academics, etc.

Yep, people aren’t seeing the forest through the trees with this situation. Everyone is stuck in 2011 thinking. This is a brand new paradigm.

I really hope we get in Big 10. Feels like a long shot, but living in Chicago I would love a meaningful BTN and multiple drivable road games pretty much every year.

The best case is for Iowa State to join the Big10. In the meantime ...let's all enjoy this year. BTW, Screw big money, greed, the coming players' union, and those crooked lawyers for killing the Golden Goose.

If you think the Big 10 feels a need to expand to keep up with the $EC, then the Big 10/ISU merger makes sense for both parties. ISU needs a stable new home and the Big 10 would get a rising program w/close geographic ties, well positioned for the streaming world at a “bargain price”.

I hope like hell they would want us. But we don’t add any media markets and Iowa would fight against it.

the big 10 is the first choice. I don’t think it’s realistic but I also know they’ll try to get in.
If you still think it’s all about media markets then you need to get out of your 2007 mindset.

Well if the right fans care, big money donors, it matters.

Seems bizarre that OU and UT would want to open their recruiting fields to the rest of the SEC. I know that aTm already did that a little, but this is a really dumb f'ng move all around for OU. Seems like they've just turned themselves into Nebraska.

Nebraska, A&M, Texas and OU all thought they were going to be big dog champion of Big 12. Neb and A&M realized they weren't and took their ball and left.

Bama
Auburn
LSU
Florida
Georgia
Texas
Oklahoma
Tennessee

All 8 of those programs are not going to be dominant at once, let alone programs like Ole Miss. By making such a stacked league with 2 power additions to the already most top heavy league, they're really doing the Big Ten elite teams a favor because the top Big Ten teams are never going to have to play a meat grinder like that.

You are exactly right that a few of these programs will be putting themselves on the Nebraska track.

Still gonna disagree. Strongly. I think a lot of you are A. Overestimating Hawkeye dislike and arrogance, and B. Vastly underestimating the impact of the BoR and the State Legislature…

…should the situation come to pass.
IA Gov is an ISU Alum and former Cyclone receiver Jack Whitver is an influential IA state Senator. Economically. and hence, politically, is it better for ISU to end up in the Big 10 or a G5 conference? Certainly, the Big10, right? If so, shouldn’t we expect Gov Reynolds and Sen Whitver to use their platforms and influence to advocate strongly for ISU in the Big 10?

Refresh my memory. Didn't the Oklahoma legislature tie OU and OkState together at the hip the last time around? Wonder if that will happen again.

it’s quite a bit about media markets.

In the first major round it was 90% about media markets.

It's definitely a lot less about it this time. Hard to tell how much.

Of teams not in the Big Ten and SEC, Iowa State does compare very favorably in terms of how many fans will buy a subscription to watch (probably the most important thing in the near future), buy merchandise, travel to road games and travel to bowl games or playoff games.

When it was only about TV market having 1/3 of Iowa cable TV was absolutely nothing compared to some other targets.

It isn’t just about those two. The whole state legislature sees the advantage of the two teams playing and being reasonably evenly matched. It’s beneficial to the whole state, on multiple levels.

The same goes for the BoR.

IIRC, Jamie has commented that the Legislature has made it clear they would never allow Iowa and ISU to end the series. That would go double for allowing one or the other to fall by the wayside.

it’s quite a bit about media markets.

It's about college football, outside the NCAA, with openly paid players.

Everyone in the SEC is on board already. Apparently OU and TX as well.

I'd love to be at the NCAA football offices today.

Huge potential hiccup for the superleague: the NFL cuts them off at the knees and drops their 3rd year out of high school draft rule once these players start getting paid--they'll want them too.
