Tell me about Cedar Rapids

From the looks of it, it just looks like the Piano Lounge just moved over there. They have the same players from Piano Lounge.

I think the Piano Lounge is still a thing, I'm pretty sure one of my buddies was a bouncer there this summer. I could be wrong though.

No the vault was built in an old bank in New Bohemia, by like the cherry building I believe and the Chrome Horse sort of.

You're thinking of Capone's. That was built in an old bank over by Chrome Horse. The Vault is where the Piano Lounge used to be.

Yep my mistake, I usually drink at the Chrome horse when I'm down in that area.

Anybody here listen to jazz? Cedar Rapids has a great jazz station out of Kirkwood CC, KCCK, which sponsors many free concerts in Cedar Rapids as well as the annual Jazz Fest in Iowa City, which again is free.

They have a great VA there which is developing a veterans museum. Their building (on the island) will eventually be holding fights and that type of entertainment so make sure you swing by as they tend not to publicize their events a lot. As another poster put... avoid just SE of down town (obvious when you see it) The area up near the North End HyVee was a great place to live. I've moved up to Waterloo and would much rather be in CR.

As a "Welcome to Iowa' thing I want to warn you to NOT get Mediacom for anything (they will likely be the first company to contact you for phone internet and cable. There are better options... (Standard advice for all new Iowans)

Amana Colonies are fun also.

This thread makes CR look like a great city. Too bad the Hoks are down the road.

They have really great insurance conventions. And a toilet brush for a downtown monument.

Actually, I've had a lot of friends at ISU that were from Cedar Rapids and they all loved living in Cedar Rapids - assuming you can get over the smell and can tolerate the mass quantity of doosher Iowa fans...

I ended up on here during the basketball game last night, and although I forgot my password, I wanted to get back on here and thank everyone for the help. I took the job at DAEC and I'm currently renting a house in Marion. It's been cold, but nice with one exception...

If any of y'all stole the mail out of my mailbox, I hope someone punches you in the face.

You'll get accustomed to the cold.

Welcome to Iowa, congrats on your new gig!

For those of you in CR ... when I was growing up there, we used to go ice skating at Noelridge and I seem to remember Ellis Park had a place. Are those still around? Or is there some sort of indoor ice arena there now? Kind of lost touch with CR after graduation.

You've obviously never been there on Crunch Berries day. It's pretty delightful.

There's an indoor rink that the Roughriders play at, and it has one that is open to the public as well for free skate. There's also small outdoor ones at some schools, Arthur comes to mind, but those are at the mercy of weather to maintain a freeze.

I don't even notice the smell anymore. Been living in Cedar Rapids (Marion now) full time for 3 years.
