Team recruiting ranking..

This is also only with 20 players going towards that ranking. We currently have 24 commits. Once some of the newest additions get added to the team ranking it will surely go up.

It doesn't have Matt Thomas or Anthony Young included. Rivals also has not said anything about the commitment of Rony Nelson. They also haven't figured in for Mattison becoming a 3 star.

Our ranking will go up and I will be excited when it does, but in the next comming weeks we are going to get passed up by the teams close to use who have less commits. The teams below us have similar points as us, but have less commits.

Quality, not quantity, ups recruiting rankings. Odds are that someone who doesn't have a ranking will not end up with a 4 or 5 star rating. If they get assigned a 2 star, the overall class ranking will drop. Some of the highest ranked classes are usually the top ten type programs who sign about 17 players of mostly 3 and 4 star with a couple of 5 star guys to separate from the pack.

it was updated last thursday, so when they add the commits from this weekend it will go up. furthermore, i don't understand their math. it said we have 1 4 star recruit, but when you go into the list of isu recruits there are 2 4 star recruits. i think the overall ranking doesn't really matter until recruiting season is over since they can't get it correct anyway until it's all said and done with.

That link has us sitting 46th place right now. Weird seeing us ranked above Cincinnati at the present time.

Just updated, ISU up to 46. Ninth in the Big XII conference. Rivals.com Team Rankings
Edit: Anyone know how the team ranking points are determined? Before this weekend, ISU had something like 367 points. Now the Cyclones are sitting at 546

46th may not sound like a huge accomplishment; however, I believe this may be the best we have ever done by far. Can anyone remember it ever being any better?

9th in the Big 12 would be a big step up. As I recall, even at the peak of the Danny Mac era, I don't think we ever had a class ranked higher than 10th.

It was much better in 2002 when we had the 30th best class. That was good enough for 8th in the Big 12.

we were 30th in 2002, and 42nd in 2004. in comparison, chizik in year 1 was 60th, in year 2 62nd. rhoads in year 1 was 73rd, in year 2, so far 46th. i thought that was interesting.

Rony is finally listed on rivals sans star ranking. Has there been an effort by cyclonereport to keep him under the radar?

Paul waits until he can either speak to the kid or his coach before he makes it official.

There were a lot of guys in 2002 who didn't show up or never played any significant time. Cutris James, Federico Samuel and Max Steward were three of the highest rated from that class and I don't think any of them played. Of the other 4 stars of that class, Stevie Hicks was pretty solid, Austin Flynn did more at WR than QB, and Collin Menard never lived up to his ranking.

Heck I dont even recognize most of the 3 stars on the list either.

For comparison purposes here are some recruiting stats from the past few years. (keep in mind these are full recruiting classes)

2002: Team Rank 30th best class; 8th best in B12; 26 total commits 6 four star; 8 three star (key players Stevie Hicks, Austin Flynn)

2003: Team Rank 46th best class; 10th best in B12; 26 total commits 0 four star; 12 three star (key players Jason Berryman, Todd Blyth, Bret Meyer, Deandre Jackson)

2004: Team Rank 42nd best class; 9th best in B12; 28 total commits 1 four star; 10 three star (key players Jason Scales, RJ Sumrall, Tim Dobbins)

2005: Team Rank 58th best class; 11th best in B12; 25 total commits 2 four star; 9 three star (key players Alvin Bowen, Reggie Stephens)

2006: Team Rank 63rd best class; 11th best in B12; 30 total commits 0 four star; 15 three star (key players Austen Arnaud, Ahtyba Rubin, Alexander Robinson)

2007: Team Rank 60th best class; 11th best in B12; 25 total commits 1 four star; 9 three star (key players Phillip Bates, Collin Franklin, J.J. Bass)

2008: Team Rank 62nd best class; last in B12; 24 total commits 1 four star; 6 three star (key players Sedrick Johnson, Jerome Tiller, Leonard Johnson, Darius Darks)

2009: Team Rank 73rd best class; 11th in B12; 23 total commits 1 four star; 10 three star (key players Darius Reynolds, AJ Klein, David Sims)

2010 (not yet complete): Team Rank 46th best class; 9th in B12; 22 total commits 2 four star 14 three star

To sum this all up we have definitely had good classes (better than this year at least by ratings). However, I'd say some of our recent classes have been proven better than some of the earlier good classes yet have been ranked far lower (further evidence that rankings are not the end all tell all).

The one thing I think stands out the most with this year's class is the amount of 3 star guys we are bringing in. Compared to previous years, we haven't even come close to landing that many 3 star athletes.

Don't think so. I think it was more a matter of not being able to get a hold of him or his coach to confirm the commitment. At least that's what they've said in the past whenever they hadn't added a commit to the list right away. I don't currently subscribe there, so I'm just guessing.
