Interesting recruit. I see ole Roy has to get his nose in there and try to steal another one from under our nose. Hopefully we can send him packing this time.
I'm not sure how much longer Deputy Dog will be coaching. He has that issue with vertigo that dropped him at one of his games.

If you look at Fred's buyout, you'll see that there's a really good chance he's there for the long haul.
at least 4 years. They seem to be very worried he would get poached in the near future because those buy outs in year 1-3 are crazy and he gets a 1 million dollar bonus for staying there until July of 2020...

I think Fred will be there for a long time unless the recruiting becomes to hard.

Like all coaches Fred will do it until a better opportunity presents it's self or he is fired. If a Blue Blood comes calling where recruiting is easier or the NBA where there is no recruiting he will leave.
While I think he'll be there 4-5 years and then there will be a change. Nebraska isn't a destination job and even though I think Fred will be successful in the short term I don't think it is his dream to coach in Lincoln for the rest of his career rather and a good well paid option right now to rehab his coaching career.

Hoiberg’s buyout, should he leave Nebraska for another coaching job at the Division I ranks, would be as follows:

  • $11.5 million after Year 1
  • $10.25 million after Year 2
  • $8.75 million after Year 3
  • $7 million after Year 4
  • $5.25 million after Year 5
  • $0 after Years 6 and 7
If he were to leave for another job at a different level (i.e., the NBA), he would owe Nebraska:

  • $2.5 million after Year 1
  • $2 million after Year 2
  • $1.5 million after Year 3
  • $500,000 after Year 4
  • $250,000 after Year 5
  • $0 after Years 6 and 7

I just still can't wrap my head around Fred and Nebraska....there is just so much wrong about this. It's like waking up from a bad dream....

Well most of the time bad dreams fade away. This one will be refreshed over and over in CF, Randy Peterson and the Register, the Gazette, ISU Daily, you name it. Go Cyclones.

Wow! So basically, he's not coaching at college after this stop, but NBA is very much on the table. Keep an eye out for a Minnesota Timberwolves opening or Indiana Pacers opening in 2021 and he's gone.

It would be nice if Prohm won this one and Xavier Foster as well. It would go a long way in peoples eyes I feel like.

Exactly - so he could leave for the NBA anytime he's got an opportunity. Buyout will be no issue there. I thought he'd try to drag it out long enough to get clarity on the T'wolves situation, but this seems like a good compromise for him.

I don't really see this as a huge deal for ISU. If Fred isn't successful, ISU isn't impacted. If Fred is successful, he's going to be in the NBA quickly. I think Fred will do whatever he can to get an opportunity in the NBA. I'm sure he doesn't want to have his only NBA coaching experience to be a big failure.

Wouldn't it be a nice change to hear a kid say, "I grew up a die-hard Cyclone fan and I'm going to ISU"......Seriously, if we can't land this kid.......i'll bite my tongue for now....agggghhhhh!!!
