Succession on HBO

I think this episode made it clear it's going to end with Ken isolated away from everyone but on top. That's why Rava had to leave with the kids and Jess had the conversation about moving on. Kendall post funeral is him severing every other connection he has for the sake of the business. He will end up CEO but ultimately alone (just like Logan! "Succession"). Even the way they were sitting on the way to funeral made it clear. He was alone in the back (elevated) and Roman and Shiv together in the middle.

Now they could end up having the buyout succeed, but that feels like such a unsatisfactory ending, in my opinion. All this just for them to be rich and looking for something else to do? Idk, it'll be interesting to see how it unfolds.

I said the same especially after Ken's eulogy. He's gonna end up on top and as stupid as it sounds because they are all deplorable, but he probably makes the most sense...if they're going to keep it in the family. I just hate every one of them so much. I am hoping somehow Gerry, Frank, and Carl still have a big say in all of this.

Also...that was a devastating ending. Roman so desperately in need of the abuse suddenly gone from his life that he actually seeks it out in physical form.

My personal prediction:

In a last ditch effort Shiv and or Rome reveal that Ken killed the waiter. Or Colin does it.

I am not ready to budge off my prediction that Gerri and/or Karl come out of top, but I do have a new thought if that does not come to pass.

If Mattson succeeds, new US CEO will be Tom, not Shiv as hinted. Mencken will support that.

The thing is if the last episode continues with this day per episode timeline, obviously very little can actually get resolved. I wonder if they fast forward at all (i. e. Six Feet Under finale, possibly one of the finest TV finales ever)

Agreed. Does not seem likely that we are going to get a drawn out election controversy. It will be an issue, but underlying the last episode.

Maybe they ought to just do two more seasons. Not like Kieran Culkin has better things to do.

My wife said the same thing last night. There is no "Succession" this entire time.

The most disappointing thing about this season is how little the old guard has been involved outside a couple moments each episode. When their involved they shine, but this season has all about moving on, both emotionally and business-wise.

As for the spoiler

My take of Tom not going to the funeral was him finally leaving the Roys. He might still have something with Shiv, but he will no longer try to be involved in that family if that makes sense. I do think of any potential CEOs Matsson would install Tom would make most sense, outside of Mencken demanding Kendall (both of them seemed impressed by his speech). Ultimately I don't see Tom as endgame CEO because the whole election night he was waiting for someone else to make the decision. It's never been his story, it's always been Kendall's. Any ending that doesn't end with Kendall as CEO seems like it's just for a twist for the sake of a twist.

I don't disagree with your thoughts and that ending makes the most sense but if that happens i'll hate it...and maybe that's the point. It's never been going to end with a happy tidy bow. The only ending I'll be 'happy' with is if they've screwed themselves completely out of anything due to their greed and incompetence. But that's not how it would likely go in the real world.

Been mulling over Mattson's last comment to Rome and Ken on top of that mountin a few weeks ago. He said 'you ****** yourself'. But then the next day he had a 180 change of mind? Not sure I buy that...I think it's possible he's been playing ALL of the Roy's except one this entire time to ultimately take over and they don't get any big position. The 'except one' is Greg. He's been in Mattson's good graces for a while (days lol) now and he may end up being not quite as stupid as we've all thought.

I do agree Mattson has been playing a game. I think Ebba is in on it. Just too simplistic that Ebba keeps feeding key info. I think Shiv is getting played and will crash and burn when she finds out. Roman is toast. Just leaves Kendall and I cannot see him winning.

yup...i am not SURE they could make it seem like their numbers were bad when they really weren't but i'm looking for something to come to light in the board meeting that all that was a ruse in some way

I think Kendall ends up in charge at ATN. The show is about him, imo. He’s had some good moments publicly recently with the improv eulogy and speech at the shareholders meeting. When he is talking with Roman towards the end of the episode and tells him he screwed up but he will fix it, kindof grabs him by the back of the neck, it was very Logan-esque. Kendall ends up in charge but completely alone - pushes away his wife, kids, and siblings in the name of gaining power. The same as Logan.

snoooze. it's probably the most realistic ending but it's pretty boring. Logan called each of them basically incompetent. The board knows how stupid and inept they all are. again, i know it's all pointing to Ken being the one but the board is stupid if they let any of them run ATN.

“You are not serious people” … were those the final words Logan had for his kids?

He was spot on.
yep.

I think there's plenty of smoke for it to be Tom. He's run ATN. He has been working non-stop and not sleeping well...which if you recall...Mattson actually told Kendall once 'i don't trust people who sleep well.'

Tom not going to the funeral, staying back to handle business also echoed the pilot episode where Logan told Kendall to do the same.

My other guess would be that the deal goes through, Mattson F's over Shiv, cousin Greg is named American CEO. Which would be hilarious.

I hope there’s a big showdown at the end of this situation if it comes to pass. Just to really drive home the point of self important/not serious people (the kids) getting ***** slapped by real players just like their dad always did to them.

Mattsen likes Greg. They’ve been building that imo.

If it's Greg it will be honestly the stupidest and most unrealistic ending ever for a show that has been really smart on how things would be in the real world. There is a 0% chance a company the size of Waystair would take a flyer on an inexperienced doofus to be CEO. It wouldn't happen. Even if Mattson tries to make it happen the board would have to vote on it and if they allowed it, again, they're all just as stupid as the rest of them.
