Succession on HBO

My money is on Menken screwing them and Mattson going with Tom.
This is where I'm tracking. I think Tom didn't go to the funeral and did a bunch of stuff behind the scenes maybe. What I HOPE happens is all of the Roy's end up screwed and at least for now, Gerri/Frank/Karl own the reigns.

Greg won’t be CEO, but I’ll be kind of shocked if he isn’t at the center of a big turning point in the finale. It feels like that’s been set up the whole series. Knowing/doing something that ultimately helps Ken or Tom become CEO seems most likely (could either be intentional or unintentional).

I have a wildcard theory that's completely mine:
I think there is a possibility that Greg's actually Logan's kid but Logan's brother took him in and that's why he hates Logan. In return Logan had his brother or Greg in the will, and that's what shocked the board when they read it.

Oh ****. That’s a great theory.

this brought up a thought for me. Logan was really big on the management program, starting in parks. If he were alive I could see him saying (to the kids), “Ya he puked in the costume but that idiot at least tried to do it. You lazy sacks of **** have had everything handed to you like a baby, I’m still changing your diapers. **** off!”

(Although Roman also gave it a go for a moment)

is it possible that Shiv isn't pregnant/lost the baby? i was chatting with a buddy earlier and we remembered she fell at one point this season but nothing really happened from that...except we see her alone in a conference room and we see her end a call with the doctor and she's crying. i said that night 'she lost it...' but then she kept saying she was but then she was drinking this last episode right? She's probably pregnant and not sure what lying would accomplish...but just something we thought of.

I don't think so, pretty sure she said something in the last episode to her mother that the baby was healthy.

Sorry, but Greg as the CEO would literally be the dumbest ******* ending of endings. Just dumb beyond dumb.

You Greg fans, "Are not serious people."

Keep in mind that Ewan is Greg’s grandfather, so it would have been his daughter (Logan’s niece) that took him in. Or maybe Logan had an affair with his niece and Greg is a giant incest baby.

This. Anyone that says Greg ends up on top…what show have you been watching for four seasons? And if they do go that route it will be the biggest farce of an ending for a truly great show in history. Could he get some important position? Sure. But even if they somehow tell some backstory that he’s been playing everyone and isn’t as stupid as he seems that will also be incredibly stupid.

My hot take is that Connor ends up with enough votes in Alaska to swing the state and the electoral college, and he ends up leveraging that to get some high level cabinet position with Mencken and also swings company leadership to non-family members under the belief he’s liberating the siblings from the toxicity of the situation. All in exchange for gifting his Alaska votes to Mencken.

My really out of left field (no pun intended see below) thoughts are that names in the show actually play a part. Shiv is a knife so will she stab people in the back one last time?

The biggie is Tom. His last name parallels the same last name for a MLB player from a century ago that was famous for one thing: the only unassisted triple play in World Series history.

Tom taking out all the Roy kids in one play would follow these lines. Is it a stupid ending if Tom wins? Maybe but again this would be very very realistic in the real world with him already knowing the company and running ATN.

I'll be honest, I didn't really like the ending. I think that ending could have worked, but the way it played out fell kind of flat for me. Ending with Kendall staring over the ocean rather than the Shiv/Tom graduate ending really detracts from it as well. If you open the series and close on him it's his story. How did he grow or develop? "The poison drips through" is a great message and they had done the work to really build that up. Even a last act switch on his part to realize it wasn't worth it would have been a good ending. Instead you have no indication he made any growth, good or bad as a character.

Shiv deciding to stay with Tom and vote no to still be close to power kind of plays but I don't think they did nearly enough legwork to make it work. To me it feels like a twist for the sake of a twist rather than trying to tell a cohesive narrative. But I'm guessing I'm going to be in the minority.

The series starting with Greg barfing in a theme park mascot costume and ending with Greg as CEO would be a hilarious/amazing story arc for him!
I think you are seeing an angle that's sort of the real deal here. If you add up all the background time spent on Greg vs. Tom it's a pretty stark contrast. I'd be interested in seeing maybe a flashback to Tom's life in Minneapolis before he entered this new life, but we get none of that.

Instead, we see Greg constantly underestimated and bumbling through both sides of every major conflict as a useful idiot, while actually showing a knack for timely ruthlessness and self-preservation at all costs, as opposed to getting caught up in the ego trips and emotional side shows that trip up all the other main characters and draw unnecessary targeted negative attention from the other players.

This is Greg's chief advantage over Tom, and it's cleverly illustrated by Tom referring to Greg as his Sporus. I believe Greg knows full well what happened to Sporus and is waiting for the perfect time to turn on Tom after they use each other and Tom subsequently finds himself in sufficiently bad spot through Greg.

Tom has already tipped his hand to Greg that he views Greg as fun and useful to have around to bully and views him as his puppet or creation, but Tom feels comfortable to be himself only around Greg which makes him vulnerable to him and Tom doesn't fully appreciate how cunning and ruthless Greg really is. Greg does the best job at hiding it, whereas Tom's method of masking his true intentions and movements has always been easily seen through by everyone.

I am not ready to budge off my prediction that Gerri and/or Karl come out of top, but I do have a new thought if that does not come to pass.

If Mattson succeeds, new US CEO will be Tom, not Shiv as hinted. Mencken will support that.

Bam. Called it.
