I agree with all the above comments. He was one of the few anchors I liked at ESPN.
This is probably too soon and all, but it seems weird to me that ESPN is doing hours of coverage on this.

ESPN has been around for 35 years. He was at the network for 21 of them.
Most of the "coverage" on SportsCenter has been repeats of the Robin Roberts piece and the ESPY speech. And since it was SportsCenter's time slot (9-12), they weren't interrupting other programming -- just their own highlight show.
Sad deal....seemed as though he was one of the good ones.
I thought the speech he gave at the ESPY's was pretty amazing. There's nothing wrong with the idea of 'never giving up' against cancer, obviously. But it was brave and honest of him to say that if cancer does take you, it doesn't mean that you gave up and it doesn't make the fight any less impressive. Death with dignity is a really, really brave thing.

Wow. Knew he was battling but didn't realize he had taken a turn for the worse. I remember an nfl primetime game recap he was doing and referred to a guy fumbling as getting stripped naked. RIP to a class act.
How he was able to do this within hearing of news in 10 minutes is amazing. I would have totally broke down.
It is amazing how that phrase has become part of the American lexicon. Stuart Scott was one of the few at ESPN that did not seem to have an agenda of some kind.
Ive known about this a couple hours now and its still extremely difficult to digest. Many people on this site are of the age that we grew up watching Rich and Stuart together on SportsCenter. I never had a clue until this morning just how much I connected with those SC personalities. There will be a lot of pillows being flipped over tonight.

I'm normally a very, very heavy sleeper but I woke up this morning at like 6 am roasting in bed. In my half awake daze all I could think to do was flip my pillow over. Instantly went back to sleep.

I'm with you. I'm someone who doesn't get emotional over negative things. Maybe I'm a cold person, I don't know but negative things, while they bother me, I don't get emotional. So I knew Scott was battling cancer and I thought the outlook was bleak. This should have been one of those things where I see it happened, think about how much that sucks for his daughters and those close to him but also wouldn't get misty eyed over it. Heck, I wasn't even a huge fan of Scott, but dammit when I saw this, all I could think about is him doing Sportscenter while i ate breakfast before I got on the bus for school. That was every morning and just now I realized that his voice and his phrases and way of talking are ingrained in my head and all I could do was run those things through my head and it did get to me.
Couldnt agree more, he was awesome when teamed with Eisen but so many anchors tried to rip him off it was terrible. Buccigross and Everett are two of the worst out there that try and be too cool for school.
