I don't view the coaching staff as static. Dresser is here for the long haul and I think over time they are evaluated and the staff is tweaked as he sees fit. I'm not a big fan of St. John and especially Zadick and I think Metcalf is largely unproven from a coaching standpoint. Zadick has been grilled on here over the years on here and other ISU boards and for good reason.

I wasn't a huge fan of bringing on DSJ..but I may have to eat some crow..it seems like the kids he works with are the ones improving the most and also he was a major reason why Carr committed..David loves him.

I'm good with the staff. I don't know if anyone is a superb recruiter (which i think is a negative) but IMO, the biggest thing we need is to bring in some top shelf senior level wrestlers into the club. Coaches are one thing but the college kids wrestle with and learn a lot from senior level wrestlers in the major clubs. I would LOVE to find a way to bring in JO. I know he has his issues, but he is Olympic caliber and one of the most popular US wrestlers to High School kids.

Nothing against Ben Durbin and Earl, I like them and would like to keep them if we have enough money, but we need to bring in guys that recruits can get excited about and guys that are competing at the top level. Locking down Kyven was a great start.

They said they were going to add senior guys. I wonder who they have all reached out to. I am not sold JO is a good idea tho. He is talked about a lot that is for sure.

I am really interested to how the team responds with Storr leaving. I think this weekend will tell us a lot.

Interesting about St John. He is a favorite of mine on this staff. I like them all, but i would say if I did have a little reservation, it was with Metcalf, and that’s only because he came in with no coaching experience at all. I would imagine for those who really want to push themselves, Metcalf is probably a phenomenal workout partner though.

As for DSJ, the reason I liked/like him maybe most is because of the kind of wrestler he was and person he is. I don’t think he had the most talent in the world. Actually, I am fairly confident in that, but he willed himself to being a 4x AA and 1x NCAA champ. He was the definition of a scrapper, IMO, he got the most out of himself, while going about his business quietly and with class. Very humble dude. I just thought he would be able to relate and develop less than blue chip guys into potential AAs, while helping those blue chippers think and work on things they may not have needed while dominating in HS.

Yeah I know they have talked about it, but I hope talk becomes fruition soon. I would also be interested. Would have to think we could get a really good middle weight guy(s) with our current staff as workout partners.

This is just my outside fan take on the coaching staff.

Dresser is doing exactly what we all knew he would do. He is the non micro manage CEO.

ZBeard runs the day to day show. Always been a fan of him even when he wrestled at Iowa. Something about his willingness to not settle and just pushes and pushes and pushes. Is he his brother when it comes to coaching? Nope. Do you not think he isn't bouncing stuff off of him though? Absolutely he is and that to me is one of the hidden parts no one realizes.

Metcalf....no proven coaching to me was a blessing IMHO. A guy that no doubt was going to end up coaching at some point and maybe we get lucky and capture the lightening in the bottle. If not nothing really hurt with the role he currently holds.

DSJ. Wasn't sold on him. Crow tastes good with a little butter lol. He is proving he knows how to coach the guys he's rolling with. We all knew he wasn't the most "talented" wrestler during his time but he got the most out of himself. The question was could he translate that into a coaching role? I'm pretty sure that has been laid to rest.

Do we have the guys needed to recruit? Hard to say...would it help to get some high level guys in the club? You bet and I think that's what it'll take.

What's the word on Aaron Brooks? I know he is going to the OTC next year and have heard he is a pretty big PSU lean, but maybe we can take some of Storr's money and offer it to Brooks. A recruiting class of Brooks and Foca would be a very good start for 2019..
 
I was curious who we would be after for next year. I assume Brooks at 184??? with Shapiro eventually going 197???

Heard Schultz at Hwt, but have Gremmel and Duggan

I would assume a 125 pounder. Cashman hasn't decided yet also at OTC

I am not taking into account who is going to develop into something special
