State HS Tourney

Hence the winky face. I know there are ways to create relationships, but my tongue in cheek comment was about actively recruiting a freshman.

I have heard similar to this, but it is mainly because they haven't gotten much interest from any Iowa school, which aside from Iowa, is kind of surprising.

From what I've heard, UNI is out, doesn't mind it but just.out. not huge fans of KJ and Iowa is a definite no. UNI would have the best chance.

Ross, have you heard anything about Max Lyon's recruiting process? He's a quiet kid so I wouldn't be surprised if he's said nothing about it at all, just curious. He was as dominant as anyone this weekend.

He's a football guy and they tend to kind of sit back a bit longer than the rest of their class. So I guess the answer is no. I plan to start contacting some of junior class soon and listing it on the high school interest list

Those West boys are hammers. I expected a close match. Thomsen is just on another planet.

Thomsen also gave the 3A 126-pound champ Lara from Ft. Dodge his only two losses this year. I'd be stunned if Thomsen and Teske aren't both going for undefeated four-time champion careers at the 2018 tournament.

No doubt, those guys are fantastic. Selfishly I hope their weights match up in the next two years and we see them square off. That would be a hell of a match.

What gets a little more odd is, I checked Siddons bio to see if it said anything, it didn't say if he did or didn't let freshmen wrestling varsity, but did mention he was a 4X qualifier. Seems odd to do it yourself, but not allow it when you coach.

Maybe not a rule, but just a matter of numbers. I've read/heard that West had up to 100 kids on the squad at a time, and they had to split up into 3 groups in order to practice because the room wasn't big enough.

Would love to see cook wrestle for an Iowa college next year, unfortunately that sounds like an impossibility also.

Last I knew, he wants to wrestle in college. As of late last year, he was not leaning to any particular school. This may have changed. He is an extremely solid wrestler with great character and an extremely high work ethic. I would have to think he could be a solid DI wrestler. I know he is on ISU's radar.

From what I've heard he's a 4.0 student so coaches can give him academic money too, which is huge.

29 wrestlers have won four individual state championships, and 1 senior will be looking to join that group: Samuel Colbray of Hermiston, who is the top seed in 5A at 195 pounds. He’s won the last three titles in that weight class, and will wrestle collegiately at Iowa State.

Awesome! Really excited about this kid.

A couple more trying to get state titles this weekend
