Star Wars Rogue One

Why would you waste time to remake old movies when you can just create new material? There are an endless amounts of possibilities; I don't want to see movies that I have already seen. Give me NEW STUFF.

I don't know? Ask Disney and the rest of Hollywood. All they do is remakes now. It appears that's what people want and it pays the bills.

The biggest Disney movie of 2017 outside of Star Wars VIII is going to be a remake (Beauty and the Beast).

People's entertainment choices are so splintered nowadays, production companies don't want to green light anything without a good idea it will at least get them a return on investment. So you get a lot of retread stuff with built in fan bases, and not much risk taking in new directions.

I think in the past three years Netflix and Amazon and some of the smaller cable networks have done a better job introducing new approaches to comedy and drama than any of the major studios in the past fifteen years, and they've done it on a much, much smaller budget.

Saw it in Imax and loved it. Looking forward to watching it in a regular theater or when it hits blu ray. Imax is great but I always feel like the experience somewhat distracts me and I wind up missing or not fully grasping some things.

While I loved Rogue One, what I can't stop thinking about is the 7 minute preview of Dunkirk they showed before. Holy **** that was so unbelievably intense. It hit a point where I really wasn't sure I could handle it and both of my buddies said the same thing. One of them was experiencing Imax for the first time and he thought he made a huge mistake.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I actually enjoyed Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

Sure, Hayden Christiansen was awful and so was the dialogue ("I killed all the Sand People"), but I thought the big fight at the end in the arena was one of the best action sequences in the whole series. I also admit to liking Natalie Portman in a torn-up midriff shirt as well.

I've never read Lords of the Sith but heard it's great. Has anyone here read it? Would it translate to a movie well?
Currently listening to it on audio books (best way to read/ listen to SW books) I love it.

It takes place 5 years after episode 3 so you really learn about Anakin's transition to Vader. Vader is a total BA in some chapters. Would it translate to a movie? Yes if it was done well, the only issue is there is a lot of scenes/chapters that take place in Vader's head. What I mean by that is where he thinks back to being a jedi and also you get a look into his mind about how twisted he has become.

I don't don't know how you would show/explain how he is thinking. For instance the book starts off when him thinking about how he likes how painful putting on his suit and how it brings him pleasure. But there are space battles and him massacring squadrons of solders which would be awesome to see on the big screen.

Didn't Disney scrap all this stuff from cannon though? I was reading the darth vader comic on youtube which was pretty interesting. That takes place after episode one before empire strikes back.

They pretty much scrapped everything before episode 1 and after episode 7. They have been pushing out books and comics like crazy to help cover ground in between the movies. Lords of the Sith is canon. I always just recommend googling canon Star Wars books and pick whatever one seems the most interesting. Unless the comic says legends, most likely it is canon. Disney seems to be putting a lot of stock into SW comics lately.

I hope they go back and retcon the old republic. I want them to keep Revan and those characters, but the story started to take a noise drive after KOTOR 2. Currently it is legends.
