I went back and watched the Teaser Trailer after reading this. Very interesting how much they changed, for better or worse.

Then I watched this guys original reaction to the Teaser.



While he has some wild assed theories that aren't close, he actually NAILS a lot of what actually happens.

So is this satire or not? This line makes me think it's satire.

There’s none of the Shakespearean space politics, enticingly florid dialogue, or experiential thrills of the best of George Lucas’s “Star Wars” entries (“Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”).

If it's not satire, the pretentiousness and overuse of a thesaurus is off the charts.

Did any of the ships successfully jump to hyperspace after the space battle before the last star destroyer ship showed up?

Ok, that's what I though. Reason I ask that is because some of the fighter pilots are also present in a New Hope. I wasn't sure if any of them got away.

If you missed episode 3 (Revenge of the Sith); there was at least one character who was kind of important (but also small role) that you wouldn't have realized. Don't want to give it away, but it is one of the rebel political leaders during that big meeting they had, more importantly, the conversation he had with the women political leader.

Can't we do away with spoiler concerns? If your a big enough fan you've all ready seen it or you should never go in to a thread like this if you're concerned about spoilers.

Same. As soon as the movie was out, I stopped entering the thread. Saw it Saturday morning, and now jump in every once in awhile.

I watched the first trailer and tried to avoid everything else until I saw the movie. People have been dissecting the trailers over and over. I didn't want to know anything more than it was a prequel to Episode 4. Period.

I haven't seen Dr Strange yet but this is my reaction as well. Gut feeling maybe?

Well. That pretty much blew The Force Awakens out of the water.

Did not have the Wagnerian story line or iconic characters or action of The Trilogy.

Substituted a rather brutal war film. That might as well have been The Thin Red Line or The Guns of Navarone or Apocalypse Now only, you know, set in space and with lasers.

That scene of Vader going space wizard pimp on the Alliance was incredible.

Clearly a #4 in the series here. A little *too* big and loud and exploding for me, but that is just the nature of these films nowadays.

First time I'd welcome an addition to the series since 1983.

Had the same problem as the climax of The Return of the Jedi, on the other hand, with roughly four simultaneous plot/action points going at once at the climax, and the editing for something like that has to be so delicate, but that is roughly a nitpick.

Some fan service, but nothing indulgent, unlike the clip show that was The Force Awakens.

I wasn't too worried about the CGI faces. 10 years from now it will probably be annoying, but I was fine with it.

I was REALLY impressed with the effects in the climax (twss). The Star Destroyers in particular looked incredible, as if they used practical models or something. My X-Wing boner was at solid midnight during the whole sequence. This replaces ROTJ as the franchise's best space combat IMO.

The thing that struck me about this film, especially the third act, was how it was like someone made a big-budget version of playing with theirStar Wars action figures. I used to lay them all out on the floor and make up my own missions and battles. So many little details and sequences played out like they were borrowed from a Star Wars video game or from someone's playground. I imagine with all the talent working on this film, there's a healthy chunk of people who put their childhood imagination to work. I loved it.

It looks fine playing on my phone via streaming video. If you've seen it in the theater on a massive screen, it was glaringly obvious that it was CGI and not in a good way.

I was totally thinking Guns of Navarone while watching it. I loved this movie. It felt so nostalgic and looked and felt so much like ANH. It had a real 1977 vibe for me.
