Sorry, I meant is the child supposed to be a character in the future or just a feel good story to close? Makes sense why Bix wanted to leave now
Knowing Cass has a child he doesn't know about and he's days away from his demise isn't exactly what I'd call a feel-good story...

And with the way Gilroy has (wisely) constructed this story, I'd be shocked (and disappointed) if the kid is supposed to be someone we're already familiar with.

That kid? That kid grows up to be:

Just kidding... I hope.

There are theories that the baby is Poe from the sequels but I like the idea that he/she is just a person in a large galaxy. Not everything has to connect.

I thought they came up with some convoluted story about Poe being the child conjured by the force from Palpatine?

The beauty of Andor and Rogue One is that they are mostly free from the use of the force. That being said, it would have been cool to have Vader show up at some point. You can’t tell me that this was all falling apart for the emperor’s new super weapon and he wouldn’t have sent Vader to get a handle on the ISB and the leaks in the intelligence. At least a mention of him as a threat.

Poe already has a canon* backstory, which includes parents who are not Cassian and Bix. Agreed that not everything needs to be connected. Such a weird impulse from a lot of fans, imo

*canon being conveniently flexible in Star Wars, of course

To me it was highlighting the heartache and the hope that Cassian created for Bix (and others he was close to along the way). He grew up without his birth parents and his adopted father was killed when he was young. The heartache is that Cassian won't get to be the father he never had and have a life with the person he loved. The hope is that with his sacrifice for the rebellion, Bix and their child have a shot at a peaceful future.

I watched Rogue One last night, followed by the opening scene of A New Hope.

I have adored Rogue One since its release. It's a gorgeous movie and the characters are compelling.
But...my goodness! Everything is now richer and has more depth. Jyn Erso feels less like the main character (I didn't hate that like some fans did) and Cassian feels fully formed.

One unexpected treat was that the opening crawl of A New Hope is now completely informed by Andor/Rogue One. I mean...

Honestly, I’ve always thought of the title as reference to Luke. After Andor and Rogue One, it has just as much meaning to the rebellion in general. Just seeing the story of how the rebellion got started and the oppression of the empire adds more depth to the original trilogy.

Indeed. Without the years of work by Luthen, Kleya, Mon Mothma, Andor, et al building the rebellion and laying the groundwork, Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca couldn't possibly have had the impact they did.

Last night, I got through Rogue One right to the point they were heading out to Scarif. I had watched ANH on May the 4th. Seeing the amount of events and sacrifice that it took to get that farm boy his one shot to save the day is incredible.
