As more details have emerged, it sounds like this whole Lord and Miller firing wasn't just a matter of Kennedy and the directors clashing over tone and directing style, but also a fair amount of clashing with both the writers and the cast/crew. This report says the set erupted in applause when Howard was hired. I also heard another report over the weekend that the lead Alden Ehrenreich actually came to Kennedy to discuss his disapproval of what was going on and how his character was being portrayed. I thought they said that people were saying Han Solo was turning more into Jim Carey from The Mask, rather than Han Solo due to Lord and Miller.
With all the details/rumors that keep coming forth, I'm becoming more and more on Kennedy's side. While I was a bit exciting about Lord and Miller directing in the first place, I've always had some fear that they couldn't adapt their comedy style to fit this new movie. Lets face it, the comedy in both 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie IS NOT Han Solo/Star Wars comedy, so don't make it that way. I guess I was just hoping Lord and Miller would ultimately adapt to their new settings and new comedy expectations the same way that the Russo Bros adapted once they came into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
