Count me in on all of this. I've been waiting a long time for a live-action TV series and if we were to get a new saga series, I've always wanted to expand outside the Skywalker series. Ultimately, the Star Wars world is a big fun universe to explore and continually focusing on the same few characters just makes the universe feel too small for me.

Kathleen Kennedy "would love for Taika Waititi to direct a Star Wars movie". Count me in the boat that wouldn't be thrilled about this. Love him or not (I recognize many love him), Taika very much directs Taika movies that look and feel like Taika movies. For example, one could easily argue that Thor: Ragnarok is more a Taika movie than a Marvel movie, which was the biggest thing I DID NOT love about it, even though many people did. With that said, I'm very protective of Star Wars movies not getting too off-track and still feeling like Star Wars movies. Its not just me either that is protective of that Star Wars brand, but so is Kathleen Kennedy, and she has proven it multiple times already. Look no further than the Lord and Miller Han Solo movie fiasco where reports were that Lord and Miller had turned the movie too much into an "Ace Ventura" comedy Lord and Miller movie than what Kennedy wanted, which resulted in them getting fired. While I'm in favor of Kennedy protecting the brand and firing them, I also would say Kennedy failed in hiring them in the first place. Like Taika or someone say like Tim Burton, Lord and Miller had proven already that with whatever movie they direct, it is going to end up being more a Lord and Miller movie than anything. None of those directors do well in frameworks unless they get a ton of freedom. That works well in some settings, whereas doesn't work well in others, particularly with Star Wars. Therefore, say whatever you want about working with Taika Kennedy, but if you do, I think both myself and you would regret it. To me, Taika makes really funny great original movies that I love to go and see, but he doesn't make Star Wars movies in my mind. Both Star Wars and Marvel are best when they are hiring good creative directors with smaller egos who are willing to play within your playhouse.

You should be more excited about Rian Johnson's upcoming trilogy. Reportedly not related to any current characters or within the saga timeline. I'm hopeful that the one exception is Snoke. Would love to see an origins story taking place during the early days of the Jedi order.

Its funny how crazy everyone is already about Rian Johnson without even seeing his movie yet. However, its hard not to when there is nothing but positive vibes coming from behind the scenes. He is also one of the first directors that has had pretty much zero clashes that we know of with Star Wars studio execs, which helps. Shoot, even JJ Abrams had some clashes. Regardless, at this point, the Last Jedi is finished and it seems the studio is nothing but thrilled about it, so I have a hard time believing this movie will be anything but good. I'm pretty amped to see it. I REALLY WANT to love Rian Johnson as much as everyone else seems to.

It seems that initially Lucasfilm/Disney wanted to roll the dice and take some chances on new up-and-coming directors to take the GFFA in new directions, but so far Rian Johnson is the only homerun hire. I like that Kathleen Kennedy isn't afraid to drop the hammer when needed. It says to me they really care about quality and aren't looking to just exploit a namebrand.

Same. I've got site blockers on my work computer and home computer blocking r/starwarsleaks and I've deleted the reddit app on my phone. I'm so hyped for this movie.

Don't forget to block/quit Facebook. That's how the big spoiler from The Force Awakens got spoiled for me.

I don't get on too often anyways, so I'm not worried about that. For me, my problem is when I get bored at work when I'm not busy, I run to reddit like an addict looking for their fix.

I love star wars. Some of my earliest memories are of the series. I honestly don't know when I'm going to get to this movie. I"m really bummed.

So my family has a Christmas Day tradition where once the kids open their presents we turn the Star Wars movies on all day. This will be the first viewing party with Rogue One, and I was trying to figure out how long this marathon would be - and I stumbled on the "Star Wars Machete Order"

Apparently, this was figured out by a blogger back in 2011 to watch Star Wars in a way that makes sense to viewers. Rather than watch the films in numerical order, this blogger recommends watching the films in the following order:

Star Wars: A New Hope
Empire
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi

Phantom Menace is completely bypassed because, according to the originator of the Machete Order:

"The opening crawl of Episode II establishes everything you need to know about the prequels: a bunch of systems want to leave the Republic, they are led by Count Dooku, and Senator Amidala is a senator who is going to vote on whether the Republic is going to create an army," the post asserts.
There are several advantages to starting at Episode II, Hilton says -- including the removal of confusing and unnecessary subplots -- and one's a big one.
Skipping Episode I means "Virtually no Jar-Jar (Binks). Jar-Jar has about 5 lines in Episode II, and zero in Episode III."
http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/08/entertainment/star-wars-machete-order/index.html

The benefits of starting with A New Hope is that it kicks-off Luke's story, then moves logically to the big reveal at the end of Empire, and then go back to Ep 2 to learn more about Anakin's backstory, and then see how both stories come together in Return of the Jedi.

The updated Machete Order is now:

Rogue One
A New Hope
Empire
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
Force Awakens

This takes slightly less than 15-1/2 hours to complete

There is another marathon list called the "Optimal Star Wars Order" that includes watching The Clone Wars stand alone movie in between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

TL/DR but I thought it was worth sharing for those of you that may be looking to re-watch the films before seeing The Last Jedi this week.

So my girlfriend hasn't really seen Star Wars. We are going to watch them so she can go see Last Jedi with me and know what's going on. I've already decided the prequals are out. They suck IMO and I don't feel they add much. But I did want to work in Rogue One. So, should I start with Rogue One or watch the film's in release order with her? I'm kind of leaning with release order since there are a lot of call backs that will be totally lost without seeing the originals first.
