I am sure many will disagree, but I could really care less about a Han Solo movie. I will still watch it because it's star wars but not really excited for it.

I think this movie is going to be tough to pull off but Ehrenreich is a really unique actor so there's a shot.

Gonna be sad if all the character development of Luke's over the first 3 movies gets basically thrown out in favor of character development that take place off-screen between episodes 6 and 7.

If that happens, I expect flash backs. Lots and lots of flashbacks. I'll probably be disappointed regardless as I won't be able to keep from looking back at the Luke from the old extended universe and comparing.

Really good article questioning whether or not Lucasfilm needs new leadership. Lots of great history in here on both Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy as well as more details behind the scenes on many of the recent Star Wars films. Definitely worth a read.
Seems really premature to me. Sure, there have been some behind the scenes issues but it's a small percentage of people who follow that news. The fact is most people who are going to see the film are probably barely aware there is a Han Solo film being made. They will go to see it without ever being aware what happened with the directors.

The bottom line is both Force Awakens and Rogue One were enormous successes at the box office. Until one of these films underperforms or is just plain bad it is hard to justify a leadership change.

I completely agree, there was all sorts of perceived drama during Rogue One and I thought that film was great. Nobody questioned Kevin Feige's leadership in the MCU when Edgar Wright left the production of Ant-Man, or when Patty Jenkins was fired from Thor: The Dark World.

Looks like Opie is taking over.
And now it's official: Ron Howard will direct the Han Solo movie

"At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie."

Eh, I'm fine with it. Probably a pretty safe choice. I actually found his recent film "In the Heart of the Sea" to be pretty good even though it underperformed. Inferno was not particularly good though, but I guess I'll give him a pass.

I'm sure I'll still see it and I'm sure it will do well, but a stand-alone Han Solo movie isn't really something that I envision a lot of people asking for. I like his character, but I like it in the context of the movie. The story and array of characters are what I'm paying to see.

This quote from Trigger's posted article was somewhat disturbing to me:

It’s also been said that Lord and Miller were aiming to make Han Solo a more comedic film than initially intended.

I'm having a hard time not drawing parallels to Han Solo and Starlord from GOTG, and a stand-alone movie could really put a spotlight on it.

Yeah, I originally wasn't on board with the Han Solo film due to not wanting one and then I wasn't super crazy about the casting of Alden as well in the lead role. However, then things started to turn around for myself once I heard Lord and Miller were directing, then Donald Glover got cast as Lando, which was an A+ casting job. Then lastly, I kept hearing word from all around about how awesome the script was supposed to be for this one, and that really put me over the top from being out to being in on this one.

I'm not a big canon guy so I don't know much beyond the movies. There may be a lot more to work with than I realize. I'm sure I'll see it and give it the benefit of the doubt, but I'm just having a hard time getting excited for it yet.

That being said, Han is probably the one character that could pull off a stand-alone movie. His interaction with several people (Lando, Maz Kanata, Jabba) makes several intriguing story lines possible. How he ended up with Chewy would also be a good plot device.

I'm keeping an open mind. I wasn't overly excited about Rogue One when it was first announced, either. I ended up liking that a lot more than a number of people.

Seems like a very safe and boring pick. I'm sure he will make it an entertaining film.

One thing people need to remember is that this film is actually 3/4 of the way done shooting now with principal photography, so there is and isn't a ton of things that can be done to change things up at this point. There is also some scheduled re-shoot weeks they've already worked in, so that helps his cause some on changes.

They have almost a full year before release. They have 5 weeks scheduled for reshoots and could probably squeeze in more if the actors will accommodate. I read they re-shot almost half of Rogue One and that was much closer to the release date. They could do a lot.

If Han's dad is Kurt Russell I'm gonna be pissed.
