Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

I'm going next week. I don't know if I would describe myself as super excited for it, but I don't have high expectations. It seems the biggest complaint is the movie is just like a really long high production episode of the show, with Mando visiting different worlds and fighting bad guys and monsters and Grogu doing some funny and cute stuff. I'm fine with that. Supposedly the vibe is much more in line with what the show was like in season 1. So it sounds like It's what I liked about the show in the first place and I get to see it in IMAX. If that's what I get I'll have no problem with that. It still seems clear Disney has no clue what to do with the Star Wars franchise anymore.

Most of this stuff was in the can for lack of a better term. Moving forward I think they will right the ship with Filoni taking the helm. Could take another year or two. Maul was a great first step. KK needed to go a long time ago.

We went through the original trilogy with the boys and they loved it.

Somehow my oldest was convinced the Ewoks ate Chewbacca even after watching Jedi.

Started Phantom Menace. The kids enjoyed it.

But that mother ****** was the absolute *****. From top to bottom.

How Jar-Jar didn't kill the franchise is beyond me. Awful.

I'm going maybe today. Not super excited, but it will be fun to see SW in a theater again. They really hurt that show in S3 and the Boba Fett series. Through S2 it was really good and then it kind of went off the rails. The thing is, you already have a captive audience. Just don't screw it up. Lucas never figured out with the prequels that you don't need to cater to kids...it can be serious and kids will get it.

I was 3 when ANH came out and remember waiting in line opening day for ESB and ROTJ. Spent hours and hours as a kid playing and making up stories about stealing the Death Star plans. I think that they did Andor right and we need more of that.

Going tonight. Im excited because its Star Wars. Jedi came out when I was 9 and all I wanted was more Star Wars. Now that we are getting more and more...feed it to me. The good and the bad, I cant get enough.

Saw M&G after work. I didn't think it was anything special and could have just been a few regular episodes.
Yeah it was fun but nothing earth shattering. I thought the music was very good. Saw it in IMAX that was a good choice.

I don’t think Filoni is that good with the live action stuff.

Quite frankly I think the fans are a lost cause to be honest. They can’t just take SW for what it is.

For what it has become. This was inevitable when Disney bought the rights. Children that grew up on Star Wars needed the franchise to grow with them. Instead, we got a franchise that shifted to cater to children because that’s what sells merch at the Disney parks.

Yes, we got a great movie and show in Andor and Rogue One. But we needed more of that and less of Grogu. They had a great opportunity for another adult level hit when they brought Thrawn to the screen, but they haven’t followed up on that at all. They should have just made Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy into a movie trilogy and just cashed the checks at the box office.

I’ve seen this said many times but I don’t believe it.

Star Wars fans are impossible to please now.

There would be something that was left out of the Zahn books in the movie and nerds would have trashed it non stop. The portrayal of Thrawn wouldn’t have been EXACTLY what some people had in mind so it would suck.

The majority of us can. Who cares about the reddit/twitter nerds. Not every star wars story needs to be deep, just needs to be fun.

Apparently Disney does, as they keep canceling shows and they tried to cater to online lunatics and put out a piece of total crap in the rise of skywalker.

Yes the backlash to the last Jedi ruined the franchise I feel like. It made decision makers scared to do anything. FWIW I think the movie was the best of the sequel trilogy but I know I’m in the minority.

The Maul animated series seems to be praised by most fans I have seen. The first few seasons of Mando also was very well received. The final season of The Clone Wars was some of the best Star Wars content ever created.

I think there’s a vocal set of fans that are toxic but it doesn’t represent the fandom as a whole.

Man, the X-wing novels so made me want something like this years ago.
The X-Wing novels and the Tie Fighter PC game have left me with a lifetime need of movies or series focused on pilots on both sides of the Galactic Civil War

Which did they cancel? Some of the recent ones sucked and should have been. Are you talking about projects they had coming? I liked Skeleton Crew, that was a fun one. Acolyte was garbage, which was too bad, looked so forward to that one.

Had its moments that were great, but Luke being a turd wasnt one of them. Even the actors werent particularly thrilled with that choice. Still would love to see more, adventures of Luke prior to this moment, if they can find an actor that works out.
