Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

I'm nearly certain that trailer is AI + previous Star Wars footage stitched together. It's not the official Star Wars account and Ryan Gosling has that telltale uncanny smoothness to his face on several shots.

OK. I was thinking the actual show was going to be a quasi-animated thing. As it started I was thinking that it was a video game and not a film.

Yeah, that youtube channel galactic trailer is all fan made stuff.

Apologies, I was up too late I guess. The only official thing I saw was this one which got me curious.

Disney posted the episode release schedule: two per week every Monday, with the final pair on May 4. I'm more excited for this than the Mando movie
First two episodes were really good. It’s really gritty. Definitely one of the more adult focused animation series from Star Wars. Part of the action scenes reminds me of Nolan’s Batman trilogy

Finally got a chance to watch these. Totally agree with you. The tone of these two episodes is what I had hoped for with The Acolyte

Episodes 9 & 10 were electric. Lightsaber fights in animation are stunning. Vader terrorizing our friends for a full episode was tremendous. I loved that Maul realized Master Daki was cooked on his own and his death would radicalize Devon, whose voice acting on her descent into darkness was awesome. That said I didn't care about the cop and his son at all... they felt like a means to an end for the plot to move along.

Season 2 will be appointment TV for me. Great stuff.

More big picture... but does the scale of Order 66 really matter at this point? The lore is that ~10,000 jedi were killed but only a few that we actually know and care about from the movies and TV shows. By now we've spent so much time with survivors who went into hiding that Order 66 just doesn't hit the same.

Palpatine claiming the throne and Anakin turning obviously matter, but in terms of the Jedi dying off I kinda just shrug because at this rate we'll have 100+ survivors featured in TV and movies someday.

To me it does in the fact of how spread out and weakened they are. Just absolutely decimated to extent they dont even want to Jedi anymore. Which was the point. You dont have to kill a fierce warrior to defeat him just remove what made him strong. Break him mentally.

It clearly worked. Obviously a lot of this is recon but you could tie it in enough that they were so broken they couldnt help the rebellion out front and it was really a bunch of non force users who won the day.

The finale of Maul, hot damn. Just goes to show you want a huge menace a certain someone in the galaxy is. I want more of this.
While I enjoy live action SW, it goes to show just how much you can lean into the incredible with animation. Those saber duels were next level.

Just started it and even the opening with Maul walking out and deflecting the blasters looks outstanding.

How are we feeling about the Mandalorian & Grogu? Comes out in theaters tomorrow. Star Wars is my favorite scifi/fantasy story and I can hardly believe I'm typing this but... I'm just going to wait until this is streaming. My excitement for Mando has lost a lot of steam and the trailers don't inspire confidence for me.

This may end up being the equivalent of "This could have been an email". It sounds like this should have been a S4 or a D+ movie, but it's been 7 years since any feature film, and they may have been looking to generate some revenue.

Some early first takes basically said its a bunch of episodes crammed into a movie, but I think most of us were expecting that. They didnt hate it but didnt love it either. It will be fun to see a Star Wars movie on the big screen again so Ill see it regardless.

I'm going next week. I don't know if I would describe myself as super excited for it, but I don't have high expectations. It seems the biggest complaint is the movie is just like a really long high production episode of the show, with Mando visiting different worlds and fighting bad guys and monsters and Grogu doing some funny and cute stuff. I'm fine with that. Supposedly the vibe is much more in line with what the show was like in season 1. So it sounds like It's what I liked about the show in the first place and I get to see it in IMAX. If that's what I get I'll have no problem with that. It still seems clear Disney has no clue what to do with the Star Wars franchise anymore.
