Spurrier interview on Dan Patrick

There's really nothing to be gained from a midseason firing of Rhoads - unless the players quit on him. Unless or until that happens, let him play out the string. And if the losing continues then right after the last game it's time to make a change.

Always a fine line between "sticking it out" and understanding you aren't good and should quit. Clearly Rhoads won't resign, but he is not a good head coach. D line coach or coordinator are likely better fits for him.

A D Line coach, you mean a position he has NEVER held before?

What I dont understand is why Spurrier didnt do what Paterno and Bowden did at the end of their career? They basically were just a face of the program and the assistants did all the coaching. Everyone knew it, AD's, players, fans, assistant coaches. Why didnt Spurrier just walk into the Athletic Directors office yesterday and say "I'm too old for this and I'm retiring at the end of the year, starting tomorrow the OC is game planning and calling all plays, the DC is game planning and calling all schemes, the STC is game planning and calling all coverages."

The Athletic Director would be fine with it, it saves him from firing him at the end of the year.

I think Paul has done enough for this fanbase and school with some of the big wins he's had that he deserves the respect to at least finish the year out.

Fans conveniently forget how scared we all were we'd lose him after the Okie State win. Funny how things change quickly.

Wasn't he on Wisconsin's list?

$4 million or so for staying until the end is not a fine line. No way would I resign when I only need to stick it out seven more weeks.

Because he's too proud to stand there like an idiot and draw a check for doing nothing.

That's the line he'd like everyone to believe, anyway. I think the truth is that his ego won't let him get fired. He did the same thing when he exited the NFL.

If Coach Rhoads was fired now then Mangino could step in and end all doubt of his ability to be Head Coach at ISU. Some people think he would be a viable candidate. Somewhere Rhoads lost something in his ability to relate with the players and get the most out of them. If he was removed it would be interesting to see how the team would react. I havent seen many team members on a soap box talking about how great Coach Rhoads is. If it is a 50 pointer this weekend I think something might be done. We shall see.

I forgot this is not a free country. My bad, guess I can't post an opinion.

Haha, get'em, Randy!!

That's a different point. But I agree nonetheless.

Unless there, I don't believe people can understand the ego/uselessness that comes with his situation.

It is abundantly clear that line of thinking was fine. WAS. Last year. Everybody saw this year's train wreck coming.
Does jp step up and do the right thing? Oh no. The proud Iowan deserves another full season, at least, just to see if he can magically turn it around, which does nothing but put us another year behind.

I honestly feel sorry for the saps that bought season tickets again that expected to see competitive football. jp and cpr should both apologize repeatedly.

Are there indications from the Athlectic office that this is the outcome this year?

hence my use of the word "may"
but, let's be honest, barring some very unlikely scenarios, the end for CPR is near. And even if it doesn't happen after this season, and Paul is back for next year, it doesn't change the point of my post. CPR won't be quitting, nor should anyone expect him to.
