Special teams...ever since I have been an ISU fan.
We are really struggling with special teams. Is it that hard to have players fair catch kickoffs instead of trying to make something happen and getting pinned inside the 20?
Is it that hard to say don't block downfield if we are calling a fair catch anyways?

I thought special teams were bad last year... this year is worse.
You'll need to be more precise.
Are you talking about the kick returns, punt returns, or punting?

Meanwhile Iowa beats us with a 25 yard drive and field goals cause they have a kicker.
For someone that is manic about attention to detail, Campbell sure allows a lot of slop to happen on special teams.

Got way too conservative offensively when we had a chance to step on their throats as well. Just a lot of learning to do yet for our young coach, who I love to death, but still a long ways to go.

We always fair catch punts, why was he even blocking??
The tackling and pursuit were poor about the last 3-4 games last season, and has been this season so far as well.
Snapping the ball was hard.
Special teams are just one phase that's poor.
As much growth as ISU has made the last 3 years, that last 1.5 quarters were rinse and repeat.

Yeah, time to reset expectations. Our defense can get us to a bowl game, probably...maybe...
They were actually trying to set up a return that time. But, because we normally always just go for the fair catch and don't have our guys continue blocks beyond 20 yards, mistakes happen like that.
We fair catch literally every punt. Every single one. Why was #2 even attempting to block down field?
if we changed nothing at all except make Lang fair catch every kick return we win that game.
