Sorsby, Campbell surrender so fast!!!

There is a part of me that wishes they had continued to fight it and lost so we have some precedence set in the process. They clearly thought they could push on and play him until the Big 12 and NCAA pushed harder with more legal action. Who is to say this is really puts closure on eligibility issues when it comes to gambling issues? You'd think after the mess the Iowa and ISU players went through with this a few years ago that college athletes would have taken notice and realized it's not worth the risk to gamble, but Sorsby obviously did not and I'm sure he's not the last high-profile athlete that will get caught gambling.

TT definitely took a hit reputation wise too when it comes to integrity. It just feels like is this situation really "over" or by Sorsby finally saying uncle it's just kicking the can down the road for a bigger battle later just with a different athlete(s) and school(s)?

Confessed gambling addict more likely to end up broke within a short period of time without continue income and a support system in place.

This guy screams UFL QB if you ask
Didn’t you hear that Techs five step program cured him?

Having him play would be like having a guy that just got out of alcohol rehab be the new bartender. It's crazy. I am a Packers fan. This dude is not worth a draft pick even without the gambling stuff. Now add that he has a major addiction and no way. I mean if it was a quarterback like Rodgers, Peyton Manning, or someone of that tier, someone would take that chance. He is going to have to prove himself in the UFL and eventually prove he don't gamble any longer and actually be good at football.

Is this the difference between using real attorneys and asking legal questions to Chat GTP? The entire approach by Tech, from the first legal filing, to the threats of outside institutions, to the roundtable PR disaster, to the immediate collapse the moment the Big 12 filed suit was so out of left field.

Judge needs to be thrown off the bench.
For some reason the judge was my first thought. At minimum threw away any credibility he had (although I imagine he probably didn’t have much anyway), at worst his career will be over. Only to have TT say, “well… at least we tried, amirite?”

Is the lawsuit with Cincinnati still going?
I hope so. I'm rooting for Cincy to win that one if it goes to trial as that would be a positive step towards putting some guardrails in place with NIL. If you signed a contract you should be held to the terms of it if you leave the school.

Would love to think the Big 12's actions/rhetoric were the entire reason TT changed course.

Part of me feels TT was looking out for their bank account long-term. Obviously their plan A is their guy CC comes through and there is a "super conference" which TT (and most of P4) is part of.

But if CC doesn't come through, then TT's hope is to be asked to join the SEC over the next 8-15 years (next 2 SEC media deals) as Big10/SEC expand further. Big10/SEC schools threatened to drop games across all sports, essentially making TT a pariah.

I haven't read what's the situation with Sorby's NIL money, but if TT has to eat $6M that's chump change.

it’s $4 million not $40 million
I mean if you take $4M and invest it in stocks with an average of 4% dividend payout, you would be getting $160,000 per year.

One should be able to live pretty damn comfortable with $160K per year for life.

Now, a gambling addict, that is in their early 20s actually having enough common sense to do that.... is a completely different animal.

Tech left the conference little choice when they started sabre rattling about suing any conference action. Once that happened, the conference had to take action to preserve their ability to govern.

The smart move would have been to wait and see what punishment came (if any) but Tech chose to go nuclear immediately

They bluffed with the backing of Texas AG and the Big 12 called it!

Smart move be Big 12 General Counsel to bypass state courts and go to federal court!!

Judge was already retired

According to his biography at trellis.law, Curry earned a political science degree from UT-Arlington in 1974 and a law degree from the University of Houston in 1976. The Fort Worth native served as a judge for the 153rd District Court in Tarrant County. He was elected to the bench in 1992 and retired in 2012 but continues to serve as a visiting judge.

I think I read this Judge had been retired for like a decade, which is probably the most bizarre fact in this entire thing.
In what universe does it make sense that you can just grab a retired judge and get him to rule in whatever way you want him to? Can you go get a retired cop to write someone a ticket or a retired DA to grant you a search warrant for whatever? Makes zero sense

Regular judge was a Tech grad so he recused himself. Curry was a pinch hitter. Sorsby's attorney must have been pretty pursuasive.
