So, where do we go from here?

They were bad. No different than majority of games. Still, there are 22 teams we beat. College basketball is down.
TJ didn’t even try to put together a “win now” roster (not that he would’ve been able to anyway). He put together a group that would establish a culture. That group got to the Sweet Sixteen. It was remarkable.

I just want to say, for the record, I think everyone is underestimating Robert Jones. He is a tough minded and tough playing kid. I believe his deficits are extremely fixable. Although he didn't finish around the hoop too often...... he finished some shots that totally amazed me.
He needs to hit the weights, work on hand strength, awareness of where is in relation to the basket, and shoot 100 free throws a day.
I believe he will have an amazing year next year!
As a fan of the Cyclones and basketball in general, I really appreciate the energy & hustle that RJ brings to the court. I agree with all of the needs you mentioned but as a message board poster who doesn’t claim to be a talent scout or recruiter, I don’t see how those things will fill in the missing variable in his gameplay equation.
Strength is one thing and I don’t have the actual stats but it feels like a high percentage of the shots he took from inside of 3 feet were blocked. I’m not sure he can build enough strength to finish at the rim with authority at this level.

So would IB be looking over seas if he's not sticking around? I love his game, but with his age I don't see the NBA for him. Streaky and needs to work on his handle going right also. With NIL money I could see him sticking around for another. Who wants to go to Europe right now anyway.

IB did nothing to help his professional stock in the NCAA tourney. I’d be more surprised if he left than if he came back.

Where do we go from here you ask? ONWARD & UPWARD my friends to the place ...WHERE WE CHALLENGE KANSAS EVERY YEAR FOR THE REGULAR SEASON TITLE!

What would I like to see? Iowa State's MBB to Win the regular season title...the BigXII Tourney Title & End Up In the FINAL FOUR!

THAT IS MY VISION OF A GREAT FUTURE!

This is akin to sitting down to a steak dinner, with a beautiful 12 oz filet, a nice cabernet, fresh asparagus tips, au gratin potatoes, and a delicious souffle for desert and saying the meal sucked because they forgot to leave the croutons off your salad.

Cyclone WIllie is a troll or just hasn't watched ISU basketball since the year 1964.

Even some of the best overall teams have performed much worse than last night by a long shot.

Our greatest team of all time lost to a bad Drake team and we had a really good 3 seed team lose first round somewhat recently.
As of right now.. The Big 12 has a chance to take a slight step down compared to this year. But there is SOO much transfer action left to confidently say that.

The goal HAS to be a birth in Des Moines for 2023 March Madness. That means we need to build a team capable of finishing top 5 in the Big 12 and top 25 by selection Sunday. The Midwest Regional is played in KC next season!

If IB stays. We need to add a sharp shooter with decent guard size to pair next to him.
I'd rather Gabe leaves and IB comes back. Replace Gabe with a big scoring guard who can shoot 3's.

George's scholarship needs to be filled with either another Jaz, Tre King type post who can really stretch a defense or a BULLDOG rebounder and defender

Jackson and Walker scholarship's would be AMAZING to upgrade.

If IB comes back, we add a shooting specialist or two, and some returning guys improve their 3 point shooting….look out.

I mean imagine if one of our 3 returning players this year could have shot it like Naz, McGee, Scotty or Thomas.

Jones showed flashes that he can be a finisher. The reasons he struggles offensively at the rim are things that could be fixed. Both he and Conditt may have needed better coaching as big men, I don’t think Prohm is a guy who develops big men on offense, hate to say it but Fran seems to do that thing well. I really hope TJ and staff can develop post scorers. Ft shooting may be another story.

I am very excited to see what RJ does next year. Don’t see him playing 25-30 minutes but I think he could slightly increase minutes while producing much more on offense.

On CF podcast Cristopherson always says Jones is a guy you’d want to play with.

Also liked Scott's comments on Grill. He likes Caleb's play and said he would love to work with him on a few tweeks that could help him with his shot mechanics. He said Caleb has the potential to be much more consistent.

I hope Scotty would be able to do that. I appreciate Grill's hustle and he had some hot nights, but needs to be more consistent from 3. Sometimes his shooting has looked like freshman-year Matt Thomas.

I'm no shooting guru, but what I have often see is when he rushes his shot it is flatter. A flatter shot is less forgiving and that is why we have seen so many of his shots roll around and out or seemingly go halfway down and pop out.

Not sure if bolded is true, hawk fans were complaining that Garza had to go to a specialist over the summers to get training because Fran was not developing him.

Funny you should say that, because the only one he made against Miami was a shot where he moved to the right and fired it in. Just frustrating to see him make several in a row and then miss several in a row badly.

I have loved Iowa State since 1964
I cant hide the fact last night was the WORST basketball performance by Cyclone basketball in memory. I see all this love this morning for “bringing us back “ ???
To WHAT? A hideous performance??
I hope this staff can recruit and fast!!

Really?! I can find you at least a dozen performances that were 2x as bad last year and several that were worse this year.

Frankly, can't take anyone who rates their teams, any teams performance in the Sweet 16 as hideous serious.y.

It is frustrating but stop for a minute and think before you post. You are probably the 12th person in the country who thinks what ISU has done this year is anything but amazing.

When Scott was talking about Caleb's shooting, he went back to how Fred helped him with positioning and the preparation needed to take different types of shots. Hopefully our staff does the same with Grill this offseason.

CW - you obviously don't understand basketball, athleticism, and trying to develop a strategy for immediate improvement to be the best you can be. It worked well this year except for teams that had better athletes......TT, Kansas, etc.

U have every right to your opinion, and I think I are way off base

Please tell the work why college basketball is down. I am interested in this view.

I think another thing this would help with would be getting more FT attempts. In conference play, ISU was last in FTA. WVU and TTU both attempted nearly 120 more FTs than ISU.

The better the athletes you have will lead to more free throws. Why? Because you can take it to the hole or feed a big man. We had Niether of these, hence fewer free throws.
