Slow drivers, KEEP RIGHT!

So true.

Problem is these lane blockers "think" they are helping by enforcing the posted speed limit. I.e. since their speedometer says 65 and limit is 65 that person behind me has no right to get by.

What idiot lane blocker doesn't realize is that their speedometer is NOT calibrated regularily unlike law enforcement vehicles. So even though they think they are doing 65 mine may read 60.

Highly doubtful that any modern automobile has 5 mph error in speed. Furthermore, what are you saving? If you had a 60 mile commute and were driving 60 MPH, it would take 1 hour of travel time. If you increase your speed to 70 MPH you only save about 9 minutes. That's on a 60 mile commute... if it's a 20 mile commute then cut your time saved down to 3 minutes. All of your aggressive and crazy driving for the sake of a 3 minute saving, not to mention that many people shell out thousands and thousands of dollars for luxury automobiles so that they can hurry up to get out of them!

The size of your tires will affect your speedometer, especially when your change to a size different than stock. I would also think that brand new tires compared to worn out tires could affect it a couple MPH as well.

Faster driving does not have to mean aggressive/crazy/reckless driving. I drive faster - not unreasonably or recklessly fast, just faster than probably 2/3 of the cars I see on the road - but I'm not out there endangering other people or swerving in and out.

They know how to do it in Europe. When they go to pass they turn on there left signal and don't turn it off until they move back over to the left lane.while driving in Italy and France, I didn't once see anyone just cruising in the left lane. I move over everytime I pass and I give drivers in the left lane about 30 seconds to pull over. If they don't pull over I'll give them a little flash of my high beams. I refuse to tailgate since it's not safe. In general, drivers suck. They don't know how to pass, they are distracted, etc. Hell 95% of the population doesn't even know how to set their mirrors.

I have been and lived in a lot of places. I moved back to DM awhile ago and recently started driving in on 235 from WDM to downtown every morning and am astounded by the stupid drivers here. Really. I've never seen anything like it. There are lanes on the right were people merge into and off of the freeway. Then there are those in the middle lane. And those in the far left. The left lane is the slowest by far; sometime almost gridlock at best stop n go. WTF's with that? The middle lane moves somewhat faster and the right lane moves the fastest. I have never seen this ANYWHERE. People get in the left lane and drive the slowest. I usually take the middle because at least it moves. I've been tempted to use the right lane but don't want to deal with all the people getting on/off. Seriously screwed up. Doesn't help that they put the auto-red-light-cameras on the busiest section of roadway in the state. Who thought that up? Oh yeah, the same genius's that get in the left lane and drive 20 mph.

Minnesota could build a stadium to make Jerry Jones green with envy in one day.

This *100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Driving around in MN makes my eyes bleed. Everyone drives in the left lane when there is no traffic and when getting on the interstates they don't get over into the left lane to assist merging traffic. Boggles my mind.

As far as the speedometer, you would think they would be accurate but you'd be wrong. Nearly every european car made is off. They have some kind of law where they intentionally are off. I had a brand new vw gti and it was 8% off regardless of speed. My gps was dead accurate in every other car I've owned but I noticed that it was way off in the gti. Did a little research and it sounded like this was normal in vw and bmw.

Didn't you read earlier in the thread? Speedometers are "electronic" now, and "electronic" means they are accurate no matter what.

Everyone on the road thinks most everyone else on the road is a bad driver, except for them. Remember Psych 101? Its the Fundamental Attribution Error.

Though in reality, there are of course quite a few bad drivers out there... but really its shocking how few accidents there are, given the amount of fast moving objects in a relatively small area on the highway. Just think about driving in rush hour, on a 3 or 4 lane interstate, completely packed with cars all driving as fast as traffic allows with about a car length between them. Its almost amazing there aren't more collisions. This makes me think that most people are good drivers... we just notice the bad ones and remember them.

Wow, didn't know that. I almost always drive in the left lane. I always drive about 5-7mph over the speed limit and the left lane seems to be smoother on most highways.

You are exactly who the article is referring to, mister. :realmad:

I live in WI and drive to Chicago. There is no greater night and day comparison in the United States.

WI - worst state for slow drivers hogging the left lane. Absolute worst.

Chicago - drive slow in the left lane....just do it. see where it gets you....I dare you...you will be so scared by how the pixxed off drivers cut you off and hit their brakes, you will soon MOVE the F over.

Drives me nuts. The left lane is for passing. FYI, it is state law in Illinois, along with moving out of the right lane when emergency vehicles are present.

FWIW, I drive 75-80 in Chicago in 55 zones along with how traffic moves(its usually 80-85 in morning rush, and pass cops regularly. They pretty much are there to get the people doing 90+. So, if you plan on doing 55 in Chicago, keep your butt to the far right two lanes.

Cause the only thing worse than a WI driver in Chicago, is some tourist from Iowa going to a Cubs game in rush hour traffic. :-)

Funny the writer is from Michigan, the only state you'll sit in a traffic jam, because of an accident on the other side of the freeway.

I go to the old standby tactics of giving them the brights at night, or the daytime wait for the opening, cut em off, sometimes brake check. Have had some road rage responses to my tactics. Usually as their giving me the finger and yelling out the window, I blow them kisses. This rarely calms them down, but my conceal carry permit does give me peace of mind.

And in many countries in Europe it is much harder to get a drivers license, and rightfully so.

Having grown up in Chicago and learning to drive there, it is really annoying to see out of towners who just don't know how to drive in the city.

And as CloneIce said, most drivers are actually good, but there are enough annoying ones out there. It is amazing there aren't more accidents, especially in large cities.

Yeah, I lived in Miami for awhile. Drive slow in the left lane and they won't cut you off; they will run you off the road. It actually happened to a guy my Ex worked with. He was driving slow in the left and was holding up traffic. Once he pulled into the right lane somebody came up beside him and pushed him right off the road into a tree. He hit it at 30mph, smashed his car, and he ended up in the hospital.

The left land IS for passing, but you guys understand that its the same speed limit in all lanes right? You don't get a free pass to go whatever speed you want because you are passing.

By law, speedometers only have to be accurate +/- 3mph. If you change the size of tire to save money or to put on aftermarket rims, you can affect the speedo, as well. So yes, there is a possibility of speedometers being off by a fairly wide margin.

Exactly, most people aren't "Bad" drivers, they just don't drive like you do. Bad drivers are those that are truly a danger to others around them. I would argue that a guy going the speed limit in the left lane is no more of a danger than the guy going 10 mph over the speed limit in the left lane who comes upon the slower car. Just because you drive faster than everyone, doesn't make you a better driver.
I think the real issue isn't that of good or bad as much as curteous and ******* drivers.
