Simeon Carter commits

I will be honest, I thought we had a small chance a Carter. I'm shocked, but very pleased with this comittment.

How good is Simeon Carter? I'll admit I usually keep up with recruits but this one happened pretty quickly that I don't know much about him. I know he's a big forward that once committed to Larry Brown, but that's all. Is he expected to make a big impact as a freshman?

I wouldn't say Big impact, but he'll definitely be used early in the season, until Burton is eligible, as depth in the front court. Which is really what the team is needing.

My guess:
Best case scenario, he gets playing time early while depth is needed, he improves, and parlays that into being a solid front court bench player. Like being Niang and McKay's backup, allowing Nader and Burton to split time at the 3.

Worst case, he's Edozie last season. Playes early when we need him, but not so much after December.

Honestly, other than Diallo, none of the freshman would have come in and had a major impact this year.

Carter is a 6'8" PF who can run in transistion, good hands, block shots, and rebound right away. Thus he can play this year if there is post foul issues which fill one of the last needs of this year'ss team. Simeon needs to develop offensively like most HS posts. Think of a Calvin Godfery type game hussel and size.
This addition is more about 2016 and beyond as a legitimate Big 12 post to refine and shape this year and could start next year. Getting a player with this potential this late with a new staff is a homerun.

Ernst, Noskowiak, and now Carter. Not a bad class all thing considered. If the Greek doesn't come back hopefully we can snag another mid year transfer. Then let's get a killer class for next year!

Rob Harrington from Scout said Carter has a chance to develop into one of the top big men in the conference.

I would keep expectations to an Edozie type role this year but it sounds like the potential is there

Agree he's more about the future than this season, but has anybody answered the question, something about needing to be cleared by NCAA Clearinghouse?

We needed depth, size, athleticism, defense (shot blocker), and a rebounder on the baseline, this kid appears to fit that role - huge pick up!
