Now that NCAA has approved an additional year of eligibility. Which of the seniors do you think will choose to come back for one more year in 2021? Who would you most like to see come back?

Agreed on Allen. We'll see how this year plays out, but he might be able to catch some more pro scouts' eyes if he is the #1 TE next year.
Selfishly, I would want to see Eisworth and JaQuan back. If they are healthy this year and the scheduled games get played out then I expect them to be competing for an NFL spot next year.

Years ago, I'd have said that I wanted everyone back, but CMC has proven he can bring young guys in and use them properly.

Just to play along and name someone: knowing we'll likely lose Kolar, I'd love to see Allen or Soehner back to give us some experience.

Kene's injury history says it's time to move onto the next stage in life. I find myself rooting for him, but almost in a protective fatherly sort of way.

is the extra year limited to just seniors? Would a junior, that has not redshirted, be eligible for five years of eligibility?

There are a lot of questions as to how this will work. How are they going to manage roster sizes? Will these returning seniors take roster spots from incoming freshmen or will rosters be expanded to make room for the returning seniors? Does every player get another year? If so, will rosters be expanded for the next 5 years?

Scholarship limit won't apply in the sense that you will be allowed to over by the number of seniors coming back for their second senior year

Underclassmen will be guaranteed a waiver to get back the year of eligibility if they want during their careers, but they will count against roster and scholarship limits.

Since scholarship limit will apply to underclassmen who come back for that extra year, some schools will elect not to offer them a scholarship for that extra year, which will make for a crazy amount of transfers.

Hmm. Lawrence White, Chase Allen, Corey Dunn and Jake Hummel?

Not hard to see where the holes on the roster will be in ‘21—but at some point, lots of these guys are going to decide that it’s time to move on to a career and Real Life.

Can we afford the extra scholarships? Remember this is for all fall sports and this year, in effect, doesn't count as a participation year for anybody on the roster.

If it means we have to reduce the size of incoming classes for the next 4 years, I think most should move on and make room for the future.

I agree that this will result in a lot of graduate transfers in the portal.

Yeah, that grad transfer portal is going to be crazy. I think that if I were the coach, I'd talk to every Senior and just gauge their thoughts on returning. If Assalley comes back, there really isn't a need to find a HS Kicker. Same for Dunn or Rivera at Punter. I'd love to have Hummel or Enyi or Allen back. Guessing there isn't much chance at Eisworth or Bailey.

I think the schools that play this fall won’t have as much of an issue as schools that are deciding not not play. Because of the over half of the schools in D1 are sitting this year out, there will be a relatively big gap in players leaving to the nfl. Assuming the nfl keeps their same draft schedule.

I’m sure there will be some players who could have gone pro last year, but decided to stay another year, but are now not playing this fall that will pledge to the draft; but I would assume the draft class will overwhelmingly be of players who played this fall. So you’ll probably have players who normally wouldn’t get drafted all of a sudden have a chance to be drafted

This higher concentration of players coming from schools playing this fall will alleviate the senior backlog related to scholarship limits and be able to take in a bigger freshmen class than schools who are not playing.

Of course, schools who take in a smaller freshmen class will have a class or two with smaller numbers of upper classmen and therefore potential for depth chart holes in future seasons. Basically issues that ISU has had on some of their worse seasons and/or coaches.

I'd love to see all these guys back, but wouldn't blame any of them for deciding it's time to take the next step in life. Take a guy like Chase Allen. I presume he wants a chance at the NFL, but he also wants to become a doctor. Is six years at ISU going to help him achieve his goals? That's something all these guys will have to ask themselves.

I think this rule benefits guys who never redshirted the most.

I don't think this will hit as hard as people think it will. Will there be that many that take it? If they are pro potential, (outside of the seniors) wouldn't they probably want to move on. I can't see a Purdy sticking around, it may hurt his pro prospects more than help. If you have a third stringer, I think the coach would probably talk that player into moving on. If they haven't seen the field the coach fulfilled his pledge if he runs him five years and he gets his degree, the coach doesn't owe him a sixth year so he can get his masters taken care of. I would say this would affect the scholarship limit maybe 2-3 at best, because a everyone but seniors but be expected to still be holding a scholarship anyhow and they would drop off yearly. 15 kids spread out over five years who take advantage of this would be three per year.

It’ll be great to get a few of those “not quite pro level, but still good Big12 starter” for an extra year. I think it will be beneficial for the good freshman who get can snaps in more than just 4 games now. It’s like a redshirt season, except you can play. The guys good enough to go pro will still go pro.

I agree, I think there a lot of guys not ready to give it up that know they aren't NFL level, but are very good college players. It is always hard to walk away for most football players.

It will be interesting to see who the freshman this year that exceeds their 4 games that we will be excited to still have four years to play.
