Sedrick Johnson gone

Someone needs to do some homework and see how many from last years roster aren't enrolled so far this semester. Feel free to make a separate thread about it so we don't think its more SJ talk. Wish him the best.

Wasn't Webster Patrick a 4 star? At least SJ has played a lot and Bo is still on the team (that we know of) after several years.

Also we still have LJ and SJ, so our main Johnson's are in tact.

Boy you think he's try to finish college. That's the biggest travisty.

I would bet Sed will transfer to a smaller school where he does not have to sit a year.

He had a ton of potential but for whatever reason just never got going. He seemed like a good guy and a good teammate and hopefully he has success wherever he ends up.

We always lose all our Johnsons.

Not even close - he at least saw the field and DID produce at times. Bo Williams might be in that rarified air tho.

Thing is - both those guys were reportedly great guys and things just didn't work out.

Max Steward should get some votes here too. 4* LB out of JUCO in the 2002 class. Don't think he ever saw the field. Might have even left the program after 1 year, can't really remember.

Couple of other guys in the '02 class that were 4 star busts, but they never even made it to campus (IIRC), so I won't count them: Curtis James (OL) and Frederico Samuel (DL).

Star ratings for JUCO players don't mean a whole lot, especially in comparison to star ratings for players coming out of HS.

Does this free up a scholarship for this recruiting class or next? I've never really understood how that worked.

This lowers our overall scholarship total which can be a max of 85. It allows us to bring in one more freshman toward the max of 25 for this year.

A lamentation about the kid forgoing his degree in a sentence with a punctuation, grammatical, and spelling error? Really?

That is a sentence fragment.
Additionally, are you criticizing one error or several?
If you are criticizing several errors I believe your list should read, "with punctuation, grammatical, and spelling errors".
Shall we also niggle about using a comma before 'and'?

Sed is at Stephen F. Austin.

I wish him the best and hope that he can achieve some success in his final season at a lower level of competition.

In hindsight, he was obviously over-hyped by both the rating services and a fan base wanting to make him a star before he ever took the field. A look back at his high school accomplishments should have led to more modest expectations. He played for a small school against small school competition and only averaged about 3 or 4 catches and 1 touchdown per game at that level. It's not hard to find 2 star recruits with that level of production.

IMO that's a good place for him. He can play right away and hopefully become more of a feature player. Too bad it didn't work out here. In watching quite a few spring practices, I saw him at times dominate. He just never transferred that to gameday. IMO this year's group was going to be Darks, Money and Lenz no matter who else came or left. The key will be whether someone like West, Young or Gary can eat into some of their snaps.

For you Donnie Jennert fans, he's not in the ISU database anymore either. And neither is Kevin Hamlin.
