SEC who?

You still gotta have a great coach to put it all together. Sheyer seems to be good at Duke. Self seems to have lost his fire since the heart issues and NIL happened. Cal is past his prime and Hubert, well, is Hubert.

I could pick the 8 best guys from CBB for my team, and if I was coaching they still would kinda suck because I don't know how tf to coach a college bb team. It would look a lot like Kentucky the past few years lol.
An argument can be made for Kentucky and UNC that the slide of those programs coincides with departures/retirements of top-tier coaches and not just "now everyone can pay their players, not just you guys", but that's not the case with KU (same coach, slide) or Duke (new coach, no slide).

Duke is interesting here.

I'm 1,000,000% sure they were cheating in the pre-"NL+TP" era just as much as those other three programs. Otherwise I'm supposed to believe that in the era when ~ all the top programs were cheating, the guy who won the most (Krzyzewski) was the one playing by the rules? Right.

However, they are the only "Blue Blood" who has maintained their dominance in this era. What are they doing differently from KU/UK/UNC?

They have good coaching and still put a "team" on the floor. And they have really talented players. The others basically have high paid players.

Is your 1,000,000% the same math as recruits saying they are 1000% committed?

I’ve told this story before but I was in Gulf Shores, AL over the 4th of July a few years ago and we went to a local place for fireworks.

They had laser lights and were flashing up logos of all of the SEC teams and there was a massive “SEC! SEC! SEC!” Chant happening.

It might have been one of the weirdest moments of my life.

I love these posts. Anybody that knows anything about college basketball knows the great players have been getting paid under the table for 40 years at every school. If you think Tinsley and Fizer only received books, tuition, room & board then you have no idea how it really worked. Even D2 schools were paying their top players. Now some schools had more money to pay and Duke, UK, UNC have Nike helping them out that is a huge advantage. KU and Louisville have Adidas helping them which is a big advantage. Those schools still have those advantages. UK spent 5x what ISU spent on their roster. Maybe they didn't pick the right players, maybe they don't have the right coach, but in the long run they still have that advantage. Now the transfer rule makes a big difference because none of those top schools can stockpile talent anymore, but the money being legal now sure doesn't hurt schools with the most money.

Yes I noticed ESPN has quit showing the victory by conference bowl standings. It seemed like early in the bowl season that was a big deal and was shown 3 times per game. I had to laugh because around Christmas they started listing conferences by number of victories versus %.

Tough to spin something positive out of this years SEC performance.

I'm (somewhat) hesitant to point and laugh, since a Big 12 team hasn't won a game yet in 12-team format, BUT ...

With this season's bracket, five of 12 are SEC teams. Four in the top 8 seed lines. Two are guaranteed to reach quarterfinal (Georgia with bye, winner of Bama/OU) and by QF, one guaranteed to reach semifinal (UGA/Ole Miss).

That's a lot of opportunity, yet all of them are on the sideline, watching.

**** off with your condescending "I love these posts" remarks.

Watching the morning shows on ESPN has been really funny. Still some characters insisting the SEC is the best, some saying it's because of the depth and far superior middle tier...

Tennessee... lost to Illinois
Missouri... lost to Virginia
LSU... lost to Houston
Vandy... lost to Iowa
Mississippi St. ... lost to Wake
Auburn... hasn't been relevant for 15 years
Florida... hasn't been relevant for 15 years

These people live in a bubble of delusion and it's really funny.

What's great to this all happening is that the SEC shifts over to having 9 conference games next season which makes it more likely they'll get fewer teams to have higher rankings to be considered to go in. If Bama and Texas have an additional loss last year you could see BYU make it in. Next year could likely see Texas Tech and BYU make it in. From the Big 10, Michigan and PSU won't be there in Year 1 of new coaches, Ohio State will be there, but Oregon and Indiana are replacing major prices to their recent success so the Big 10 could be hard up for 3 schools as well.

Total cult $hit.

It won't matter. They will just put more SEC teams in the top 25 to start the season. And they will just play hopscotch with each other as the season unfolds. Make no mistake, the money will make sure the SEC will have its quota in the playoffs every season.
