Scales on Top

We could be in for trouble, it sounds.

Jason is number one right now because of his experience. “If I had to make a decision today, Jason would be our starter in part because of his experience,”. Chizik said. “But I don’t have to make that decision today.” Look at the latest practice report under the notes and look at JJ's stats from tonight’s scrimmage.

- RB J.J. Bass carried the ball five times for 45 yards and caught one pass for 20 yards before scoring a TD on a tough five-yard run.
- On the FIRST TEAM offense’s third possession, Bass scored his second TD of the scrimmage on a 28-yard run.

Has Jason Scales been mentioned at all in any of the notes at cyclones.com?? The RB spot is one of the least of my worries on this team.

That's a bad job outta you...

We have not seen Scales healthy once. If he stays healthy, it will be nice to have 2 capable backs for the first time....well... ever.

I seem to remember a couple of guys named Troy and Darren, i forget their last names, but they were an ok 1 -2 punch.

HaHa... Gotcha B*tch!!!

sorry, it sounded funny in my head.

I read as much into the practice reports as I do anything coming out of Vick's mouth these days.

Seriously folks, those reports are only a small snippet of what's happening up there. Plus, we have no idea what defensive unit those yards are coming from, etc.

I'm happy for Scales - regardless if he starts or comes in 2nd. He's had a very tough road and clearly hasn't given up. Our football team really could use (if not need) a healthy and effective Scales to be successful this year.

Coach wants to run the ball, run the ball and...run it some more. One guy won't be able to shoulder that load.

I seem to remember Darren and Ennis being a good combo. Agreed that this is just practice.....who really knows anything until we play another team.

HUH?

I guess you never saw him play at Valley. Anything I've seen to date of him at ISU is moot, he's never been healthy. Finally, he is.

I agree with that. The guys always been hurt, so you can't judge anything you'v seen him do in Ames. I was praying he'd be a factor last year. Like Milan Moses, I hope Jason has a great senior year. He deserves a break after the last 3 years.

I'm thinking that that Scales "might" have had injury problems in the past due to improper Strength and Conditioning. But, we'll see what happens this season.

I know it seems everyone has a man-crush on the new strength and conditioning program coach, but didn't the former guy win S&C coach of the year award once? I like what I hear about the direction of the program and the philisophical change, but we used to rave about that program in the past (albeit not the recent past.)

Not me. I've always been a big "Getty-doubter". The frequency and types of injuries always kind of set me off. It's "possible" that those injuries were caused by smaller, less-talented players facing bigger, more talented players, but the types and frequencies of injuries were always suspicious to me.

It's relatively easy to build strength and size (and there is evidence the S&C program wasn't very good at that, either), but it takes real skill to build strength, size, agility and durability. And the really good S&C guys can do just that.

I'm not a big fan of the guys who get recognized by their industry as being "the best". I have a former brother-in-law who is in the same basic industry that I am, and he won one of those, and he was a complete idiot, who just "knew how to get 'hisself' noticed.

I know it's our nature to dissect things, but I think it's an easy answer as to why Scales is reportedly #1. The staff thinks he will win games.

One thing I'm not worried about with these coaches is favortism or anything like that. Guys will be out there because the staff thinks they give us the best chance to win.
