Aerosmith - Dream On

They re-recorded it for the Last Actuon Hero soundtrack. Steven Tyler’s voice had changed so much over his career that the remake was incredible. Especially coupled with the lyrics of about getting older.

Alice in Chains is the best group of the 90's.

My favorite band when I was in HS and college.

My 17 year old that had been mostly into rap and country in the last few months started listening to classic rock. And just decided Alice im Chains is his favorite band. I don’t think he even knew I was a fan.
Don't overlook Rainier Fog (2018) and the recent Jerry Cantrell solo work. Still stellar.

On the OP topic, venturing into the Neil Young archives is a perpetual rabbit hole of versions. Down by the River would be an example.

30+ years later by Neil with Pancho and the MG's:

Tyler Childers - Can I Take my Hounds to Heaven

The album version is MUCH different than how he had played it live previously. Not on any other albums.

Hell, I guess his three versions of each song on the "Can I Take my Hounds to Heaven" Album. The Hallelujah version, the Jubilee version, and the Joyful Noise version.

Pretty big heart fan

Love this live version

Ann and Nancy are pretty bad ass.

So mostly this is an unplugged appreciation thread. A few later new arrangements. I can think of a few live versions that are also different enough to be worthy but can't add links atm. I've always loved one particular live 25 or 6 to 4 thats out there. Not super different really, but Kath really gets ya when you can watch him work.

Thanks for getting me out of the politics forum death spiral.

The song “Calgary” by Bon Iver is the biggest one for me. The album version I don’t even really care for, but the one from Live in Sydney is amazing to me…. love it!!

Neil Young’s “modern” acoustic versions of Harvest are a better arrangement for the song than the album version with the band (in my opinion…and I am admittedly biased with this one).

Prince is the KING of extended versions where he kills it and I'm not sure anybody is close. A few but there are like 50 of them. There's one for almost every hit song and a lot of the lesser known songs the long version is way better.

short radio version of Alphabet street is pretty average but extended version is a funk masterpiece
