I can't tell you how often I have crossed the street with an open container at Jack Trice. Right in front of the cops no less. Don't be a jackass or a stumbling drunk and you'll be fine.
You can get away with it in Ames but DO NOT do it if you go over to Iowa City. They've really cracked down on that, as well as open containers around Melrose closer tot he stadium.

It's been a few years, but I remember a lot of Hawk fans saying police cracking down on things had pretty much ruined the tailgating atmosphere in Ia City. Don't ever plan on going myself so I don't really care. I think law enforcement in Ames does a pretty good job at stepping in when necessary but not going overboard.

You definitely have to be careful as you get closer to the stadium. If you tailgate in the University Heights area you are fine as long as you don't get to close to the street. The cops drive up and down those streets all day long just looking for a reason. But hey, Iowa City tailgating is the best....

A couple of thoughts as we're nearing the grand opening of the RV park:

1) Anyone considering bringing their generator just in case the power grid has some glitches the first week?
2) Anyone concerned about fitting in their 55' space? I have a 36' 5th wheel + pickup. It's going to be tight, and I have what I consider to be a mid-sized unit (TWSS). It will be interesting to see what happens when longer RVs are paired on the same slab. Will the 55' line be marked?
3) Backing onto (and staying on) the 10' pad will be a challenge
4) I pray my neighbors to the rear and sides aren't a-holes-it could make for a long year. They're probably praying the same about me.
5) I fully expect the first week to be a sh1t show.

Thought about the same things......here is where I am at
1)we have an onboard genny on our 5th wheel. I plan to have some fuel on board "just in case"
2)We have a 40ft 5th wheel with a F350 crew cab dually long bed. We camped at a campground this year that had 50ft pads and we fit. You will be able to unhook, but not be able to pull forward too much. I dont think the 55ft line is marked. I am bring a long tape measure so we can mark it. I am not going to fight with someone over space, but I am going to need all that 55 ft.
3)the 10ft width will be room for parking only unless you have a small RV. All tailgating will be in your grass area I am sure. We plan to bring a couple of the big RV outdoor rugs to put down on the grass. Pray for no rain as those grass areas will get sloppy I am betting.
4)Same here. That is going to be the big "what if". We are hoping for nice neighbors
5)I think the parking and everyone getting "settled" will be a cluster. Once we all get a few drinks in us....it will be all ROLL CLONES!!!

We will see how it goes, but if it is too tight, I may bring a bike and get the 5'er all set, unload the truck, and then go park the truck somewhere in town. Then go get it Sunday. Will give more room on the pad if needed.

As long as you aren't on one of the single slabs you can arrive early and drive through your neighbor's spot to get to yours.
You have a better chance of tearing up their grass than you would if you backed in. I have a 37' Class A, so length isn't a problem, and with an onboard generator I am fine for backup. I did leave the gen-turi exhaust for the generator at home, hoping I won't need it. Just had the RV out, so I am going thru my final setup checklist for tailgate season.

I do love watching the newbies try and park the first few games. Should be interesting this year as well. (hope I don't screw up now) -- The amount of oversteer is always a joy to watch.

Anyone in 430 or 431? I am in 429 and a friend is in 427, so I have that side covered.

Not worried about ours, but the poster I quoted was so I gave him an idea.

We are on a single so we don't have that option anyway.

It is always strange to get the rig out after a few months of it sitting idle. I was the same when I had my TT. I like to give it a test drive and a quick parking. It is easy to forget how big they are at times.
First hour or two might be interesting with everyone trying to park at the same time. Backing in across the lane of someone else driving forward. Plus heading down the wrong way and having to do a loop around another section to drive in the correct way. Oddballs go straight (stay on west side) until there 'road', evens take the first left and head down the east side...

Organized or disorganized chaos?

Has anyone determined if the bathrooms at the intramural fields will be open? Or if there will be Kybos somewhere by the RVs
