Royce White to...the UFC?

Man, that NBA money must have dried up real quick if he's going full circus side show already.

Maybe right before his first fight, Royce will refuse to actually fight and sue the UFC because they don't have a specific, stated protocol. And when asked for further clarification of what he is looking for, he refuses to specify, stating that the UFC should know.

I worry for his health if he does this.

What a waste of a huge talent. I've still not seen a player come along like him. He could have been special.

You don't start in the UFC on fight one. Even when an Olympic wrestler or Judoka or a world class Muay Thai or BJJ guy starts MMA the path is a couple amauter fights, then a lower level promotion, then the UFC.

So his first fights would be on like a bar stage or some Lions Club or something. I dunno how he'd deal with that reality.

His height won't be an advantage because any one with any BJJ and wrestling background is taking him to the ground and stealing his lunch money

You don’t watch the heavyweight division very much. Much more striking and a lot less ground work. And a lot of really tired clinching.

I do I'm saying that even in the heavyweight division he will get destroyed on the ground.

JFC, I get that he's a pro athlete but to be decent at MMA you literally have to have YEARS of training and master a discipline. This will not end well for Royce.

In most weight classes. Heavyweight is way way less training. You need a good punch and be able to sprawl on a take down. There are a few very skilled heavyweights like Fabricio Werdum and Frank Mir. There are also heavyweights that basically throw bombs and knock everyone out, Like Derrick Lewis. I would say it's impossible to just start an MMA career down in the lower weights. Even 205 has major skill. However, if you are just entering, Heavyweight is the best place to start. Less skill needed and if you can throw a knockout punch. You have a decent chance.

This. The world of MMA is similar to baseball in that regard. There are so many levels before you're in the big league.

Quickest route is probably 3 years and that is if you are legit and have an exciting KO style.

Greg Hardy from the Cowboys had 3 fights in a lower MMA League and after 18 months, he got a chance on Dana White’s tv show Looking for a Fight. I think they signed him to a developmental contract where he had a few more fights and just recently had his first main UFC fight. All in all I think there was around 2.5 to 3 years.

And after those 2-3 years he still didn't know all of the rules and got DQ'd from his first big fight for kneeing a dude in the face while he was on his knees.

ESPN picked up this story. Royce definitely has an inflated image of himself.

"I'm one of the best athletes in the world," White told ESPN. "Among the NBA community, part of my appeal as a draft prospect was my unique size, athleticism, vision and that I probably have one of the 10 biggest set of hands in the NBA. I think all of those things will translate beautifully to the UFC."

Dude you played in like 3 NBA games and you were smoked by a thiccboi (read: large man who doesn't look like a normal basketball player) in The Tournament back in the summer.

Good luck to Royce.

When was the last time in your life you were this bold and announced it? For that alone, I'm glad for the inspiration.
