Boy I really thought a mediocre JC DE would be our answer at DT. Sarcasm.

He's not good. And he's not 300 lbs. Any Iowa OL helped him up on a play and made Coe look tiny.

How about David Irving though? Definitely our best player during the first half. Looked like a man.

Iowa had some success running right at him but he was pretty good at chasing down plays when they tried to run off tackle. His move to DT worked better than I thought it would. Props to him.

See other threads. Rhoads can't recruit. Don't know why we got so excited about this guy. Another excessively hyped recruit by Rhoads.

i thought iowa looked bigger all around as a team. I know Yancy is working on a certain type of player but we got manhandled. David Irving looked good but the rest, not so much. Our dbacks looked bad as well. Ugh

Coe was worth a shot. 4 star RB out of HS. He still has a year left....if he contributes at all over this year and next it will have been worth the gamble.

Exactly. The staff knows that this kid is an athletic freak. The staff also knows that he has some work ethic/behavior issues that could impede his ability to take advantage of these talents. That's the risk reward situation. If the staff can get through to him at some point this year or in the offseason, he can still be a solid contributor at ISU at a position it's not exactly easy to find bodies for.

We needed a player not a project. Especially not one with his attitude. Irving made a few plays early but was manhandled several times.

Wow we are really writing a kid off after 2 games, aren't we? It's his second game ever at that position.

Agreed, two games in that position and an off-season are not enough to become great at a position, no matter your physical abilities.

To those who want to write him off, while I agree we cannot afford to "give it time", what would be your alternative at this point?

This is big boy football.

And the point is he played D line last year at JC and just plain wasn't good.

Where is the thread on the other lineman? He wasn't the only defensive lineman out there when Iowa was running the ball down our throat. We got guys that have been in the program for 4 years on the DL that struggled just as much

All I know is that the staff likes his talent level and potential. I'm not going to write off the guy after the 2nd game of his career.

Maybe it is time to move Coe to the DE position where his quickness can be used and he is not going to get manhandled as much. The reality is that he should have been red shirted. It is a shame that ISU doesn't seem to have a good DT to throw out there, but they have not had a lot of luck with recruiting and keeping DTs.

On a side note, I was sitting a few rows away from his family and I'm guessing it was his father that threw up twice during the game. Didn't look good and had to be carted out of the stands. Hopefully he'll be ok.
